One trick that I observed Kevin Vernon use to good effect was to go round the flange with a small hammer, making lots of light taps (Quite quickly, say 120bpm, imagine you're conducting Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg) in a radial direction to break the seal betwixt silencer and pipe. Not too hard, you don't want to distort anything. I think it's the vibrations that do the work.

Or you could try a metal bar bolted to a U bolt, one each side of the join if there's room to get in

Tried that Hamwich, still needed a big hammer to get it off.
The subsequent flaring of the exhaust tube was brought back to size and shape using a piece of scaffold tube as a dolly.

I bought the Silverline rubber strap wrenches but they did not grip. With some heat after copious soaking in AC90 & much hammering I got the RH exhaust off. Something fell out, the remains of the catalyst about 70mm long 30 mm one end tapering to 20mm. Looking up the exhaust confirmed no cat. Shaking the silencer I got out the disc I cut out of the baffle which had not come clear bending over when I drilled the baffle. Not tested it but this should now eliminate the rattle on start up & tinkling noise from the silencer.
I had got the engine management warning several times which had cleared after a few mile. The loose cat may have caused this depending on how it was lying in the silencer. I replaced the mounting bobbins with Caterham items.
The LH silencer came off easily & looking up the exhaust stub the cat is still there. I reckon I need remove the LH cat.

The LH cat now extracted, it took some effort to get it out. I went for a short run, it feels & sounds no different other than the rattle/tinkle is now gone. Interesting that the cat is magnetic & lots of light grey dust came out in extracting it. The silencer joint overlap is much longer on RH side compared to LH.

The silencer joint overlap is much longer on RH side compared to LH. If you loosen the headers and adjust them at the same time as you are fitting the silencers, you can get the overlaps even on both side. Find a piece of wood, 30mm thick and strap it to the front coil-over to ensure you get sufficient clearance to the headers on each side. It's a bit of a juggling act but very satisfying when everything fits together perfectly!

The uneven overlap was how MMC left it after new chassis. It was like that before the new chassis when I took them off for baflectomy. Perhaps the RH header is a bit longer, would MMC do that? Its in place now but I might try adjusting if it had to come off again.

One cylinder is slightly further forward than the other which would account for the excessive overlap on one side.
