Battery fires are almost impossible to extinguish.

The best vehicle fire I ever witnessed was a big turbo diesel in a truck. I don't know the primary cause, but it was running burning its sump oil, the engine boost rose and the RPM increased until the engine exploded and the tractor unit went up in flames...

Old diesels with worn bores could run away by sucking sump oil up the cylinders ..... could be quite impressive🙂

Not sure if the above vid has been posted before ... bunch of what sounds like Aussies combining beer and a turbo feedback loop for some backyard fun!! 😮

I have seen the aftermath of a LARGE turbo diesel engine self destruct, apparently the norm may be for the turbo bearings to wear to the extent that oil leaks out of the bearing and into the intake tract which then acts as fuel and may cause the engine to accelerate out of control while using it`s lubricant as fuel until there is none left for it`s main task, at which stage chances are that the engine internals decide to come out for a breath of fresh air..?

Have also been involved where someone used a lighter brighten up a battery room in order to see the electrolyte level on large glass lead acid batteries that were over charging...! result, an acid bath lacerations and the loss of sight in one eye. Hydrogen can be explosive it seems...!

Best be careful out there..?

There was, and probably still is, a small steam traction engine at Beamish which had a catastrophic boiler explosion. I remember it as being ancient when we visited years ago. The bent and mangled boiler barrel and plates made a spectacular piece of art.

Lithium is very difficult to put out if it catches fire. Run away is the best option.

Oil and grease fires can be spectacular....
Lubrizol grease is likely to be in short supply in the USA in the coming months...

No doubt to the horror of some I bought an MG5 EV last December.

Cost worked out about £23k taking into account the value of my trade in.
It's a Chinese car that looks like a VW Passat estate that's been in a crash.
Once past the badge snobbery thing (it's obviously nothing like a traditional MG, but then again neither was a Montego):
It's as fast as my plus4 - if not faster
It's comfortable and spacious
It's competent within its boundaries but it's no sports car and should not be driven like one.
It's actually quite well built and gets a seven year warranty.
It's cheap to run and insure.

As a practical backup to the Morgan I (currently) have no regrets
