Some time ago, I was lucky enough to be given a Moto-Lita steering wheel that a friend had found in the boot of his new (to him) MGC. Just recently, inspired by Nestor & PaulR, I thought I'd better get on and fit it.
I cut a roundel from a sheet of 4mm aluminium (£10) and drilled the nine 5mm holes around the perimeter.
Mine is a 2012 M3W and I've always been troubled by engine vibrations making their way through to the steering wheel which can be quite tiring on a long journey. I put this down to the fact that early chassis flex more than later ones. Therefore, I bought some motorcycle fairing isolators (£5) to insulate the wheel from the Lifeline Quick Release adapter. The rubber grommets of these fit snugly into three 13mm holes drilled into the centre of the roundel and the steel sleeves ensure that it is a failsafe solution.

The wheel is therefore slightly cushioned from vibrations making their way up through the steering column.

After a bit of polishing I'm quite pleased with the result, especially as it was all done on a budget of around £30 including the nice shiny stainless steel fixings and Heiko Nord shake proof washers.

The test drive after fitting was a revelation. The Moto-Lita wheel is a much nicer thing to hold on to than the standard lightweight one that MMC fit and those annoying vibrations have been tamed to an acceptable level. On top of that, because the spoke spacing is different I can now actually see the speedo. All in all, a very satisfying project!
