Wondering what the options are for engine temperature gauges?

Is there any way to easily read the temp from the factory sensor?

There is an article in the MTWC Bulletin magazine May 2020 about the installation of a SPA oil pressure and temperature combined digital gauge. There is a sandwich plate that goes between the oil filter and housing that can be used for fitting the transmitters for any gauges. If you cannot access the MTWC article PM me and I will send you a copy. The factory fitted sensor is only for low pressure warning.

Rodger, how did you put a temp sensor in line?

I have never heard of the SPA gauge Planenut. Will check it out.

When I have connected with protune, one of the measurements was temperature. I am surprised there is no way to access that reading without hooking up to the USB port.

I fitted the SPA gauge to my car several months ago and have found it to be excellent.
As I like to know what is going on with the car it gives me peace of mind, particularly in traffic.
I would do it again every time.

Hope this helps.

I agree with everyone's opinions of the SPA pressure / temp gauge. I fitted it over the winter and also added a GPS speedometer / Odometer to my setup this spring as gremlin in the odometer / trip meter combined with the quirky fuel gauge made fuel level estimates a challenge. Here's my gauge setup.

When you guys installed the SPA gauge, did you use the Oil filter sandwich plate type sensor unit, or something else as a sensor?

Hello Bluesman

I used all the sandwich plate and senders which worked fine. I had to move the rectifier out about 20 mm. to give agreeable clearance, and modified the mounting plate to make this work.
I was taxed to find a decent mounting point for the actual instrument, looked at the same solution Cuna used, but in the end opted for a position just under the dash on the passenger side angled so that I can see it easily enough. This works for me, and it amazing how quickly you become accustomed to looking at the instrument. I find the oil temperature reading particularly useful as I try to drive fairly gently until I have the oil up to a decent temperature.

Unfortunately it seems beyond my computer skill levels to be able to upload photographs here to help.

I did the same as Missing Wheel, used the sandwich plate and adapted the bracket for the rectifier to provide clearance for the sensors. I'll likely ultimately move the rectifier to the body in front of the footwell which would make fitting the plate and sensors easier.
