This is the factory original setup on my 2009 +4. Already "optimised" with some added washers, so the bolt is not protruding over the nut like on Rog's car.

That's better. I think the brackets would need to be removed/slackened off to first get the bolts in.

I don't know, would it be possible to temper and forge the original, or necessary to use another kind of steel? Or maybe to form it from an old leave?

Anyway, many thanks for the excellent idea, I am going to replace the bolts on my Mog as well.

But a thicker section bracket might help thinking

Thanks Peter. I would speculate that the bracket is already made from a low quality grade of spring steel. I don't think that it is regular ductile mild steel.

Also when I was hit the bracket wasn't damaged. The material didn't yield, it sprung back and recovered. Yes heat treatments or a better grade may possibly extend the yield point even further but I think Morgan have done a reasonable job with the current bracket at protecting the delecate chassis. But it is just a shame those nuts and bolts were the way they were...

Countersunk screws are a great idea in this situation. Taping over the hex portion to prevent crud getting in might help for ease of subsequent screw removal.

I have been waiting but cant hold my breath any longer, what about a little pad of Dave W material on top of Rogers mod to spread the load even more?
I too have suffered the same problem, parked at LeMans in the Vinmog group, as the first there we were at the front row and a Belgian? DH coupe was seen parked hard behind me on a slope at lunch time. When we came to leave the circuit (last out) the damage was noted. Never did see that car again...(no note) so when I eventually get round to fixing the damage this mod will be employed.

Rog, did you measure/try - is the bracket hole diameter large enough for M10 or will I need to enlarge? The original screw size of 3/8 is around 0,96mm, so asking before ordering.

Thanks

I also countersunk a couple of M12 stainless washers so that the heads seat nicely and still work in the slots in the brackets

Yes M10's fitted through the slots in my brackets, I did try a bolt first that I had laying around. Also I ordered up M10’s x 75lg as the nuts and washers are a tad thicker compared to the M8’s
