I ran a pair of 36" extruded aluminium coolers on my Willys as transmission coolers. They were just exposed to ambient air under the car bolted to the inside frame rails. They worked good for my purpose. But as you have it mounted inside the bonnet area, a fan is a must have in my opinion.

Do you have levelour vents in your bonnet? I know not all of the M3Ws have the vents (mine doesn't) so was simply wondering what the air temp inside the bonnet gets up to.

It might get hot under the bonnet but I am not aware of any issues occurring because of that over the last 10 years the thousands of miles driven and the varied environments the M3Ws live in.
