Still curious about the weight though.

If it is above the 3 wheeler weight limit, then I would assume that it would have to have a full SVA which I would have thought would be a bit challenging with all the exposed ironmongery?

I must admit I'd never looked at Mogwire before but having read most of this thread I ventured over to have a look.

Now I'm no Morgan expert by a long chalk, but I found at least three blatant 'errors' in current stories in my first quick perusal.

And as for the blatant scaremongering with the pictures of the kit cars it's quite frankly laughable laugh2

As such I must question your statement above.

As far as I can see information posted on Mogwire, that can now be verified, has proved pretty accurate. For example the £90k "way of the mark" price for the Aero trad has proved pretty well spot on.

Anyway time will tell one way or the other.

Out of curiosity does any one know what the Low Volume Exemption testing requirements are? I would have assumed that they would be similar to the SVA requirements that I alluded to earlier.

This was discussed here back in July (originally in relation to whether it needed a front number plate). See: http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/67884/Re_Goodwood_Festiveal_03_Jul_2#Post67884

At under 550kg it is a motorcycle for road use and can be ridden on a motorcycle licence, at under 1000kg the type approval is the same as for a motorcycle.

The 410kg limit means it must be MOT'd as a Class 4 (i.e a car). As long as you don't try and drive over the inspection pit surely that's not much of a problem?

More info here: UK Trike Law.

No it isn't. The price is £85k so why state its £90k? So no, it's wrong and they have been given the price so why print £90k??

These are printed as statements. They are wrong. Most of the info is available to anyone who wants it. Except of course those who it may not suit thinking

Let's face it, opinion stated as fact is not uncommon on forums.
The 3.7 Roadster prototype was running on 10th September, and I was informed by a high up, that the engine deal was still in negotiation at that stage. There's also an interesting spin on the cancellation of Mog2012, with an aside about the investment level of MSCC. Well, I was at every meeting where MOG2012 was on the agenda, and it's not for me to comment here, except to say that the decision was regrettable, but the right one taking all the circumstances into account.

I'm glad to hear there is some scare-mongering here, although the OP was genuine enough I think - looks like his dealer has misunderstood some things.

Looked up the tax rates, and found this:
Tricycles (not over 450kg unladen) 12 months, £74

I guess over 450kg it becomes a car, and needs emission figures etc. The tax weight aligns with MOT weight so there is some sense in officialdom.

50kg is do-able I think.

Don't forget manufacturers often negotiate a concession on minor construction and use issues when new vehicles are signed off by the ministry

Of course what really needs sorting out is the UK regulations.

. Type approval
. Road use
. Excise duty
. Driving licence class
. MOT testing

...all have their own set of specifications and they don't all match. To be trike for road use, a bike for licencing and a car for MOT testing is just crazy!

Hi Ian I have just been digging around and as far as I can see, if it has 3 wheels and is over 410KG then an SVA is required.

The following is from the driver and vehicle licensing Agency site.

"Will SVA affect you?
Your vehicle will need SVA inspection if it is not already type-approved to UK or EU standards, and is a car or light passenger vehicle (including dual-purpose vehicles) with:
- 4 or more wheels and 9 seats or fewer including the driver's seat; or
- 3 wheels, 9 seats or fewer including the driver's seat, and a maximum gross weight of more than 1000kg; or
- 3 wheels, a maximum gross weight of 1000kg, an unladen weight of more than 410kg (i.e., not a motorcycle), and either a design speed of more than 50kph (31mph) or an engine capacity of more than 50cc."

Now this is for the SVA, I am not sure if the rules for the Low Volume Exemption that the MMC will need to go for are the same, but I would expect them to be pretty similar. I also have no idea whether the need for an SVA will present an issue for the MMC a quick scan of the regs would suggest that it would be challenging, but I would have thought that the MMC should be aware of the issues? However if an SVA or similar is required then the comments by Simon after his discussion with the MMC "The issue with weight would seem to be affecting road tax, rather than anything else; however, I am waiting for further comment on this" would seem key.

I would have thought that if the thing had already passed the relevant type approval than the MMC would have said so?

Lots of conjecture, but as I said earlier time will tell.

Brian
