Yesterday, rather disturbingly, we found that the rod inside the nearside front damper had fractured right at the top. We have the Suplex units used for a few of the very early 5 speeders. Peter and Dan @ SSL (who did the original development work on the M3W suspension a lot of which was discarded in the cost driven shift from these Suplex units to the standard Spax units) were extremely helpful pointing us to the firm that built the dampers for Suplex ... they are going to repair the unit for a modest sum. Interestingly we heard that SSL are nearing completion of a new suspension kit for the M3W ... given their reputation for improvements to other Morgans, this sounds interesting.

All credit to the specialists in the UK motor industry for help sorting this in just a few hours...not sure how long would have taken to sort via MMC and likely a lot more expensive!

Although a Morgan +8 user of SSL/Suplex suspensions , rather than a three wheeler , I can only support your comments about Dan and Peter.

I think the secret is that they are both true enthusiasts, both Morgan owners (although Peter might have sold his?), and both more interested in good technical solutions than the commercial side.

They now work a lot on suspensions for many other classic cars , (AC Cobras, E Types etc) and are developing an excellent reputation in racing circles.

My '61 Plus 4 has both the SSL front kit and their 5 link rear kit. Both excellent. Peter is both very knowledgeable and super helpful.

One to watch! Although I've never had any issues with the standard setup (touch wood, cross my heart, sacrifice now needs to be made to the reliability gods etc) I could be in ignorance of what an improved setup feels like...

It will be interesting to see what price point the new SSL kit comes in at. At the moment we have a neat arrangement whereby Spax adjustables are half of the price of ATRs, which are in turn half the price of Ohlins.

I broke the same shock absorber with the upper thread twice the second time it was my first repair which lasted over a year, last week I fitted the adjustable Spaxes and I am more than satisfied with it. to be able to adjust them very sensitive to remain in contact with the bitumen.

Have you got a price for one of them, then I should be able to work the others out🤔

Interestingly, Demon Tweaks offer similar looking Ohlins for considerably less. Has anyone investigated?
