Having driven it, it really hits home how good these drivers are to cover the 7 miles in around 6 minutes 20 seconds

I have sailed in to that port on numerous occasions Gordon...(-: Did you walk round to the shell beach to the South of the harbour past the the car ferry landing and the house with the whalebone arch entrance to the garden.. ? Stayed at the Stonefield hotel on a couple of occasions while attending car club weekends. Looks like you picked perfect weather to visit the area..

We drove right out pier road and had lunch overlooking the harbour entrance George. Didn't notice the whalebone entrance but did meet a lady who owned a black +4 and we talked Morgan at length.
It's a lovely town and the weather was perfect, a friend has a house there and a boat in the marina but wasn't there this week. Maybe he knew we were coming 😃

Gordon, I believe the shell beach is the product of dumping the shells left over from processing related to the shell fish industry over many years. The whale bones were looking very grey the last time I saw them and that was a few years back. Spent many a night aboard listening to the fish stores roof mounted refrigeration compressor kicking in and out on the other side of the harbour... Happy days..

Interesting history George, thanks. As you seem to be the only one who knows I'll tell everyone it's Tarbert. The middle picture was taken on the B8024 North of Kilberry looking across to Jura.
