What height do the spacers have?

I think I will try a first test with plastic whasers with a height of 2 mm and glue them onto the motor housing...

What height do the spacers have? Without measuring i would say 1/4”. When i find the oem cover i willmeasure it. UPDATE: I just measured them and .098” is what i get. I will follow with photos of the 2019 cover.

I think I will try a first test with plastic whasers with a height of 2 mm and glue them onto the motor housing... I would glue them onto the cover since they are more easily removed from the cover than the intermediate camchest plate; you don’t want to mess that up. UPDaATE: PM me you email address and I will send photos of the cover with its built in vents and standoffs.

Now I have all information I need to move forward!
0,098" are ~ 2,5 mm and you are totally right: it´s better to fix the washers onto the cover.
I will work o the cam cover the next weeks and will post some photos once it is finished for the M3W owners which need the same information.

I dont like the spacers in between the motor housing and the cam cover because of air and rain water.
Unfortunately I dont really see and understand the venting solution on the photos above…did S&S cut some slots into the cam cover…could somebody post detailed photos how the final or actual solution of the vented cam cover is made?
Icould do the job on a milling machine by myself…but I would like to do no mistakes. to me, IMHO (I am not humble but I am opinionated) the vent spacers allow MORE grim, dirt and C@RP into the area!

The purpose of the spacers is to vent hot air when the engine is switched off. Due to the nature of the engine it always stops in the same place leading to local hot spots on the cambelt which resulted in a few early cambelt failures but the small vent gap stopped these. The spacers were a quick fix and subsequently the cambelt cover was redesigned by S&S with cooling vents. With the spacers the gap is quite small and does not lead to significant ingress of water or dirt. If you have an early M3W without a vent then using a couple of washers to space out the cover a couple of mm is sufficient and a well proven solution without needing to machine or modify the cambelt cover.

I have not seen the 30,000 miles or 3 year cam belt life written down anywhere but was told that is what it is by a Morgan workshop person after doing the cover venting and getting the cam chest upgrade done, FOC at that time. I still think that "on condition" is a sensible way of doing it, I check my cam belt condition every Winter service.
