Smart wheel conversion for a German racers car - the claim is he is saving 3.2Kgs a wheel. I've never weighed mine (on my Plu8) but they certainly are not heavy so I'm sure he's right and I hope they bring him more success. Oh yes he has a better choice of tyres with the 16" X 7" rims too. Some of our German viewers will be familiar with the car I'm sure. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/07/21/lt.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/07/21/ltt.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/07/21/tl.jpg)

Why the need to lock wire the centre nut though?

Axel's comment is "With additional security as usual in Motorsport" on his original post, he is a very successful racer in Germany so I think he knows what he is doing. It might be in their Regs I don't know. Who knows he may even have owned an early Aero and got overtaken by his own wheel. Them coming loose is not a problem I encounter

My experience too, after being nervous about this -from something American I had read I found needing a 20' bar and a giant to hold the wheel was necessary to get them undone. Now I am just nervous about a puncture as I cant carry the bar around with me.

I like this wheel design, would be great to have something like this to suit the 4/4 wheel size (15x6). The car also looks very cool, I prefer this look to the Sunday picnic look.

There are options for the splined hubs of Alloy wheels but they have all looked a bit clumsy to me other than the Morgan Lightweight Alloys which were only produced for a short time for the Plus 8's back in the late 90's. The other splined hub alloys that look good imho are the Baby Doll ones once again produced in limited numbers. As you suggest they would be too wide and the diameter I expect would be a problem for a 4/4. I like the look of his racer, it looks very purposeful. From my original sales brochure (passed to me with the car) they were a £1,674-38 extra at the time July 1999. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/07/21/min.jpg)

The best wheels ever on classic +8s! Had them on my 4.6. Sad, that they offered them just for a short period. Heavy and blinking wire wheels were preferred and ordered by the clients. Stock were the good old aluminiums and for the extra charge you got wider wings and the wires or these alus.

3.2 kilos per wheel is a very large saving indeed, Is this the combined wheel and tyre because a 16" 55 profile tyre is going to be lighter. I suspect this is compared to the wire wheels previously fitted? Compared to alloys I would find that very difficult to believe. 5 Stud alloys are much less bother to remove as well. Just a normal breaker bar with a socket is fine , no need for 20' extensions. Agreed that the choice of tyres is much wider for 16" rims.

I am assuming the comparison is between stainless wires as the weight saving seems pretty good, Axel didn't put the detail on the Morgan Group FB site. It has just occurred to me that maybe he has the alloys safety wired to keep the torque at reasonable levels so as to prevent the 20' bar.

They don’t look too dis-similar to my standard 5 stud Plus8 alloys on the 2002 car. Obviously the hub section is different. Nice in black too.
