Good morning,

I have been studying the handbook and rummaging beneath the dashboard of my 1997 plus 4. The handbook mentions an "immobilise system Plus 4 T16" which apparently works with a fob. I don't have a fob, I only have an ignition key and a petrol cap key. I notice there is a black box loosely attached behind the dashboard which would appear to be the immobiliser (according to Google), Lucas part number YWC104540.

If this is an immobiliser, how am I able to drive the car without a fob? I am too inquisitive for my own good.

I have a 93 +4 T16, it does not have an immobiliser, I believe the immobiliser is in the ECU in later models, you may not have that ECU, but you may have later handbook?

I have a 1997 +4 with an immobiliser factory fitted and indeed it has the same black box under the dash as you mention.

The fob that I have has the number LUCAS 3TXA KEY on the back, it is a black fob with 2 buttons, on the right hand side button there is a raised decal of a lock.

I have put the part number into Google and it seems to recognise it.

Alistair late into this, I have a similar system on my 1999 Plus 8 but have never used it although I have two blippers for it which are as Rob's above. I have an original white label with blue lettering on mine AMR 4893 if that helps at all, the frequency is also on the label which is a little faint but will have a go at deciphering should it be helpful to you on a quick pass it looks like 483MHz.

When I picked up the car at Harpers Roger said, I wouldn't bother with those I never do, so took his advise.

In the seven years I have had the car there has never been a problem so I'll carry on, it's great big lump to carry around and I always throw the Red switch at home and away so safe as a house, and without the need for float charging the battery - 10 weeks without a run (holiday) at one stage and she fired first pot up.

Is your car a silver body with blue wings? That might then be my old +4 from 97. The ECU was failing & the replacement ECU had the immobilisr pins removed so it would work without the immobiliser.

I am starting to think that I should leave well alone and rely on the big red key for an immobiliser.

I would be inclined to agree Alistair for obvious reasons having lived with it for seven years, lets face it the red key is the best immobiliser in case anybody official should ask.

You could get ECUs that link to the immobiliser but you will then need to pair them which involves sending the immobiliser module & the fobs to the supplier.

I have a 1998 T16 and was advised not to bother with the immobiliser and use the big red key. Also have a trickle charge on the battery, starts first time very time.
