Been up in footballer country - Alderley Edge and Wilmslow in the +8. Saw a Cullinan and Aston on interesting plates. I looked them up on the DVLA is my car taxed website, both were taxed but neither according to the online records are on the make of car I spotted. !!

They probably make that with one kick of a football.

Interesting. Soi for the moment assuming the DVLA are up to scratch ( big assumption) these cars are on cloned plates presumably either because they were stolen or maybe just to be able to ignore speed cameras etc. The Aston could be in "jack the lad" territory since you can get one for less than 40k.

There used to be a facility to report a suspected untaxed vehicle online, it had a notes section to state where last seen, perhaps you could pop the details in there & give it a try

When paper tax discs disappeared, we used to get lots of cars parking up an un-adopted road near work that were clearly being used, I used to report them and surprisingly the DVLA man and a van did occasionally clamp one or two

We met a prominent UK Rugby player some time back through the sale of a house. Nice enough guy. His finance/tax adviser on the other hand....needs a good investigation that's all I am going to say. Most of them realise that they have a limited lifespan in the role and so work out how they can protect themselves in their older age. He was buying a house to rent to students as an investment. So he was asset rich but actually very highly leveraged so cash poor.

He had been offered a Mercedes G63 (now older shape with lorry platform not the modern one) at a pittance by MB as a brand mascot deal. If you went to MB site at this time the lease for this car was £1500 and he was paying less than £600 a month. The laugh is that he nearly ditched it twice as the combination of power and 20 turn steering with no self-centring was a bit shocking. Even with arm and shoulder muscles his size! Handed it back and went with a Bentugly.

A 250k car is much more likely to be an enforcement target - never ignore the power of envy.

one of my "walks to the station" routes when I was working was via a "Coronation Street" cul de sac, and when paper tax discs were around I would say over 30% of those cars were not taxed.

Police now have devolved powers from the DVLA to seize vehicles that are untaxed for 61 days.
