Tim,
Another big advantage of leaving a Tesla plugged in all the time is that you can pre-warm the car, the seats and the steering wheel, or cool the car down, without taking power from the battery.
I charged the car from a 13A socket for 2 weeks before the EV Charger arrived. It works, but is slow.

I really like Teslas, but I need a decent size hatchback to get the paddle boards in, and the Model X is way out of my league price wise. If I ever got a spare £90k I'd have the Landy converted, that would be ideal.

the Model Y is on the way, same size as the 3, about 20cm longer and a 5 door hatch back.

If I ever got a spare £90k I'd have the Landy converted, that would be ideal. Model S is a hatchback with 1645L capacity with the seats down plus 150L under the bonnet. Used prices are under 30K with a few miles on the clock, if you don't mind used? If you can find one they did a version/year with lifetime free charging as well, I seem to remember.

An email from Land-Rover dropped into my inbox this morning. Amongst the fluff (including the Defender at Goodwood FOS) was a reference to Hydrogen vehicles. The release referenced dates from 21st June this year. Does this mean that JLR don't believe that pure electric can perform off-road and or towing or is it just a cynical publicity thing? I'd of thought it was more to do with weight and range. If your adding 1 ton of batteries to a 2 ton vehicle its going to be a struggle to maintain a decent range with the current battery technology. Think Hydrogen will be like diesel was years ago mainly in commercial type vehicles. Certainly interesting reading all the potential new variants that are being tested.

Why not go to fully charged live in September to get an eyeful of EVs ? It's held outdoors.

I'm sure hydrogen has a role to play, and of course people's usage patterns are all important in deterring what's best for them, but for me a Landy with a relatively short (150-200) mile range that I could charge up myself overnight would be far more useful than one with a 400 mile range for which I had to go miles to find a hydrogen fuelling station. The furthest I've been in a day in the Landy in the last 5 years was 90 miles down to Clevedon and back.

I agree about the use of hydrogen in commercial vehicles. As hydrogen wouldn't mean lugging half a tonne of batteries perhaps a hydrogen powered gas turbine to drive the wheels?
