Guess they will be keeping the MX5 gearbox as that's the only reliable bit in the whole drivetrain. The 1.0 Ecoboost will be reliable at the milage most M3W's will do and won't try to destroy it's self and anything attached to it (the whole car) like the X Wedge does.

They could add a fourth wheel and call it a Morgan 3/4.........

Has anyone done a study as to the sales rise or fall from the JAP engined models (exposed engine) to the newer F types (enclosed engine) ?
I know the era is fairly different and the reasons for owning a three wheeler have changed a bit but thought it an interesting question.

As Lightspeed says, it's a different era. The early Morgan 3 wheelers were viewed as economical, primary transport and a step up from a motor cycle. The M3W is nothing like that and is a "toy" much like a Caterham or a big bike, a totally different market. I think that the marketing people at Morgan will have a hard time selling the new M3W without the visual impact of a big V-Twin hanging out at the front but this may be over come by better performance, reliability and refinement of a more modern powertrain, for some at least?
At the risk of the wrath of many early Morgan 3 Wheeler owners I would say that the F-Type was probably a better car than the V-Twin JAP and Matchless Morgans, just a shame it had a rather pathetic Ford side valve engine. Visually there is no contest, the V-Twins win all the time but for those that want to use their cars without the constant need for maintenance...... that could be the same now as well?

Agreed. I think there are many ways Morgan could create a cool vintage roadster look without the exposed engine. I hope they can do better than this though... ![[Linked Image]](http://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/images/ev3h5-1539619842.jpg)

The M3W is sold on adventure and unconventionality, not reliability. This new 3/3 looks like it will be a 4/4 just missing s wheel.

On the other hand .... perhaps the big V Twin appeals to the more "traditional" customer. Most people now wouldn't know what an engine of any type even looked like. The overall appearance of the car will be more important and if it's something different, reliable and exciting to drive, it will sell. Also an enclosed engine bay can hide a multitude of sins - even an electric motor.

I thought the EV3 was stunning.
