Hi,
I recently replaced the passenger side gaiter on my 2017, Plus 4, steering rack. The gaiter was recommended by one of the group members (thank you RichardV6). The link below will take you to replacement part, for anyone interested.

The replacement is slightly longer than the original, but it fits. It took me about 1 hour to trim and fit.

After closer examination the gaiter on the other side is also split, so I have ordered a replacement. This looks a little more complicated. Does anyone have any illustrations/instructions/advice on how to do it?

I think the gaiter on drivers side has to be slid over pinion housing.

I took a look at it, but it mainly describes the Jack Knight system. I assume that the steps are the same for the Quaife rack.

The replacement universal gaiter is pretty firm, so it won't be easy to stretch it over the pinion housing with the smaller diameter side of the gaiter going first. It was difficult enough getting the passenger side gaiter started, when I replaced it, and that was the larger diameter first.

I'll give it a go.

This is the passenger side gaiter (OE) before the universal gaiter was fitted.



Right is split OE gaiter, and left is trimmed universal gaiter. The universal gaiter is slightly longer but is a fraction of the price.

Other possibility is to detach track rods from rack and slide the drivers side gaiter over first then the other. Dealer replaced mine and forgot to ask how it was done. Hopefully someone else will be along to explain easiest way.

It turned out straightforward, Richard.

When the track rods and bracket are removed, the rack sleeve can be slid off and the gaiter pushed on with ease. Both gaiters are fitted from the passenger side as you suggested.

Hopefully, they will last a few years.

The bracket with the two bolts through it ... is that the same one that also holds the track rod ends?

And how did you open and re-close the lock tabs; the radiator makes access difficult on mine?
