Paul
I'm with you all the way and expected an OWE of around 400-450kgs. The last modern three wheeler I drove was a Skunk Malone that had an OWE of just over 300kgs.
Doesn't stop me wanting one though...
Cheers

All I know is that very early on when we were involved in discussing the concept one of the important factors was the tubular chassis giving some cockpit protection? Maybe that has had some bearing. I know I agreed, and still do feel better for having it

I remember a conversation with the factory where they stated that despite the M3W being able to pass safety regulations as a motorcycle, they felt strongly that they produce a Three Wheeler that was as safe. I would imagine a lot of the weight comes from the safety frame and the protection it offers.

A substantial chassis isn't the only way of protecting the occupants, how about the use of lightweight ali. honeycomb down either side to act as side impact protection, same in the floor, and I would think the ash[?] frame would already be quite good. I rather suspect that MMC used the chassis that Liberty had developed, and it is [fairly] well known that Americans can be a bit lardy [Sorry to our friends over the water, I am trying to choose my words carefully here]. Some components look a little oversized too, I mean, look at that huge battery for a start...........
Actually, we may get a pleasant surprise when the production cars get sent out, and it may weigh substantially less, where can all that weight possibly be otherwise?

Gents,
Given all this concern about weight can I assume that everyone will be dieting in the lead up to delivery to gain the maximum effect of weight saving.
I have and I'm now down to 8 stone 6 lbs in old money.
Let's be honest no screen, skinny tyres, and 3 wheelers very few of use will be taking the car to the limits

Let's be honest no screen, skinny tyres, and 3 wheelers very few of use will be taking the car to the limits Less weight doesnt only equate to a increased speed and quickness to speeds, but also less wear and tear along with greater fuel economy and being more nimble. Sure, not everyone who will be purchasing a M3W will be focused on all of these, but I'm sure most owners would appreciate some of these outcomes of less weight.

Krod,
Accepting what you say we need the be sure that weight reduction doesn't come at the expense of reliability, and over engineering will hopefully result in a better more reliable vehicle than one where the emphasis has been on weight reduction. Having driven the M3W the first thing I have planned with mine is a handling course, knowing my driving skills and having never owned a 3 wheeler I think this will add to my enjoyment much more than a 3 wheeler fed on skinny latte's.

You will be lucky. There is a 12 month waiting list for the kit and two years for a turn key Triking. But Trikings are light, nimble and vibration free.......

Oh dear, what a big fuss about weight and things. Estimated 0 to 60 is 4.5 secs. Isn't that fast enough? 500 Kg and a 2 liter torquey engine should be frugal too, I think the thread has developed into missing the point of this beauty. It is not high tech and I don't think it was ever intended to be, or it would be called the "EVA 3 wheeler" or "3 wheeler lifecar" and it would be radically different.
