John,
Can the new hood be retro fitted to m/y 2021 cars? I hate the bloody flap with a passion so would like to rid my car of the thing. Can your source give a definitive answer?

The 22MY hood is completely different to the hood on the 2021 car which is very similar to the hood on my 2017 Roadster. What I have been told is that the fault on the 22MY hood has a fix that applies only to that hood, obviously. The fitting of a 22MY hood to a 2021 car is a completely different thing and I have no idea on that. However I should be speaking to my source tomorrow and will get back to you as soon as I have any news.

I have been looking at changing my 2017 +4 for a new plus four ( please don't tell the Mrs, if i go for the same colour scheme & stick my private plate on she won't spot the difference) & have looked at a couple of cars that dealers have in stock.
Ive seen 2 2022 model cars with the new roof at different dealers, one had the arms of the roof frame in exactly the same position as my 2017 easy up roof, the other (supposedly a very recent delivery) the arms were not far off touching the headrests.

Whilst the new roof looks a good idea, I am guessing that they will work the same as other convertibles that I have had with frameless windows, you get to a certain speed & the seal is broken & a gap appears between the top of the window & the hood seal. The seal will be reliant on the pressure that the top of the side screen can push against it.

Andy,

I drove a 22MY Plus Four with the new hood yesterday with the hood up. I found that I was inadvertently doing 110mph and can report that the sidescreens stayed sealed against the frame of the hood. I confess I was pleasantly surprised.

John

I’m looking forward to seeing the difference in noise level between the two hoods, if I get the opportunity. I must admit the 21MY version is somewhat noisy when it’s up! It’s a significant reason why I do everything I can to avoid driving with the roof up. The last time I was driving in the rain (with roof down) the aero meant the inside of the windscreen had more water running down it (from behind) than the outside/front….
Actually less concerned about water tightness, it’s noise that would be a deciding factor for me (aside of course from the cost and ability to actually change it as well!!!).
I’m doing one of those driving experience days out of Bicester with MMC in early September and they’re getting the auto Plus Four from the factory for me to use (as that’s what I’ve got) so i reckon it’s likely to be a 22MY version so hopefully experience the new flapless version of the roof…

The mohair of the hood is harder than on the classics. The car is still noisy when the hood is up. There is a lot of water coming in through the back of the doors but no water on the frontThere is no water passing through the top of the sides-screen and they stay in place at high speed. The interior seams are hidden. The result is beautifulI’m just a little surprised not to raise the hood when I close the door. Old reflex....
