What year is the 35th. Anniversary Edition? Presumably a later version of my 3.9 V8. That's a hell of a difference in price for the pump!
That is the problem..also being asked of me in another thread.
This V8 has gone through many variations, some of the most painful close to its demise.
1. You have the V8s made up until 1976, which can be very well (aka better) supplied by the US Buick 215 market.
2. Then you have the mighty Sd1 era (1977-1990) but even this era has sub-divisions into different fuelling systems, carbs, flappers (Morgan uses a flapper model made for Morgan and TVR and Marcos...
3. Then you have the 3.9/4.2 era, fueled by Hotwire variations
4. Then you have (shiver) GEMS
And (what joy!) Morgan stopped following the Rover/LandRover changes time-wise many years ago. Additionally, overseas variants became very different from UK/Europe in comparable componentry year over year...sometimes the same but often different.
One of the big thingies changed was the front timing cover, which is FAR more than a front timing cover on this V8..holding the oil ant water pumps and distributor..until Morgan stopped in 1998 (for Overseas) and 2000 for everywhere else. The timing covers for GEMS quickly became unobtainable and hyper-expensive. Sadly, the oil pump wears like all versions do and since it is a part of the timing cover..one has a limited future. I have helped a number of owners switch back to a distributor so they can back on the road with an older timing cover.,http://www.mez.co.uk/tuningtheroverv8-pt6-new.html They are happier when they see the performance!
But many countries won't allow such things I understand. By there are ways......
As you can see hints of, 1000s can be saved a year for repairs taking minutes..as long as you know which is the right part for YOUR +8. We go to dealers (who are all overworked now) because we lack knowledge in this maze, not because you are totally incapable.
Frankly, looking around in the West today, if I had to do it over and retire early again, I would become a roadside mechanic today rather than a specialist lawyer. l
