My brake lights stay on intermittently, I give the switch a gentle tap then light goes out. Does anyone have a part # please? I believe these switches aren’t very reliable, as an alternative has anyone tried mounting a micro switch off the brake pedal?

I put a microswitch on my brake pedal in 2009 (I think) Dave and it's been totally reliable. I'll see if I can find the post. Sadly that post was consumed by the debacle around Photobucket. But I mounted a relay on the crosshead, near the switch, which on my Roadster is offside chassis mounted. The microswitch came from Maplins and I mounted that to a simple fabricated L bracket. The mini-loom was piggy backed onto the existing switch terminals, so nothing was changed, allowing reversion to standard if necessary. The wires run through the bulkhead using the existing loom hole. Don't bother sourcing a new hydraulic switch, because the quality is such that it will fail again at some point. Slaving a relay will remove the current factor from the hydraulic switch as John suggests, this makes them far less prone to failure. I have never had a failure on either of my Plus 8's in about 50,000mls and 11 years to put things in perspective for you.

Part of the problems seems to stem from the draw created by the additional brake light. I fitted a new switch and replaced the brake lights with LEDs. everything seems hunky dory now and for the past five or six years

Why not fit LED brake light bulbs, problem solved and no need for a relay.

Part of the problem is the poor quality of OE replacements, that's why +8 Richard's originals are still working
