[quote=nick w] I find it annoying how people say I bought an electric car to help the environment. To help the environment people need to learn that the best thing is to not buy anything and walk everywhere.
Yes quite. When I bought my +8, I didn't look at a bicycle made of vegetables as an alternative. Same with the Tesla. It's a car. The fact that it doesn't put out fumes when I'm in London is mildly interesting - but it's not why people buy them, or any car.

In the meantime the Plus 8 and Polo GTI will do us nicely thank you as they fulfil all our needs and the Ford tractor is the shopping cart with £30 RFL.

If the hail storm had written off the Octavia instead of the Silvia I might have replaced it with a Tesla instead of getting a Frontline style of MGB. But to replace an open top convertible sports car you need another convertible and apart from the RBW MGB that is more money than a Frontline and probably never going to be released in Australia I don't know of any electric convertible sports cars on the market yet.
A friend made an interesting comment today. He was thinking of a Tesla but three of his neighbours have them an have been making comments about how they are saving the planet which has been getting up his nose seeing they used to drive large cars and not care less about the environment before.
I will be interested to see how hydrogen goes, there are 20 cars in my town owned by the local government as a trial.

Electric cars are without doubt a conscience boost, but the simple fact is that EV's don't save the planet as much as using public transport, and I say that as a PT user. Well, not since Covid but you get the point.

As there will be green hydrogen, the large vessel ships are waiting and the long range trucks.
For small passenger cars battery electric is not so bad.
I did like the idea of e-gas - but our customers donˋt seem to like it.
Interestingly many customers think that the petrol cars they sell will be sorted out but why should they. They will be used to a technical end somewhere in the world.
So if you are happy with your current car, just use it. If you are going to by a new one anyway - think carefully.
I have been to Italy in the e-tron recently. Plenty of charging points available. This might be different in a couple of years...

Well, not since Covid but you get the point. I agree and would use PT if it existed. But the bus service here in semi rural south wilts is sparse and focussed mostly on school and the park and rides. The nearest park and Ride is 3 miles from home and 1.5 miles from the town centre. I can drive to the central carpark in 10 mins, the bus, 4 x a day, takes 30 mins and using the park and ride not much less time. There used to be a station near us, but it closed in the 60s. Otherwise the train would be an option. So the Tesla has become, at 5p/mile, the default local run about. Since we got it in mid May our monthly spend on petrol has fallen, by about half.

I'd just like to point out that the quote above has nothing to do with me even though my name appears on it...how does that happen? Nick

agree and would use PT if it existed. Same here - plus the few buses you do see around here are big old 30+ seater jobs with apparently poorly-maintained diesel engines carrying about 4 people. In the conurbations, and for inter-city travel, of course public transport should always be used in preference to private vehicles, but there's a different model needed in more sparsely-populated areas.

At 5p per mile Peter, I guess you are booting your Tesla everywhere My little electric buggy was bought because of the way it drives, all round fully independent suspension, 50:50 distribution, stupidly small turning circle, can get through small gaps it's fun, I could have chosen a more sensible practical option but most of my journeys are relatively short, bear in mind I've had a smart Roadster for almost 18 years. I find the anti EV sentiment quite funny, no one is forcing anyone out of their current vehicles, and to most on this forum even if the 2030 dead line goes ahead it'll hardly effect anyone reading this, you can still buy fossil fuel powered up until then, and use them after that, it's just a transition. The PT option is what we use when we go away (or did) train to airport - just can't face sitting in traffic hoping to make the departure and having to drive after a long flight - it holds no appeal to me whatsoever. Our travelling footprint compared to most is quite minimal and local I can't think of anything less enjoyable than being sat stuck in traffic with 100's of miles yet to do (especially with my bladder )
