Having bought my ARP4 new in 2016, thinking I would keep it for enough years for the depreciation curve to start upwards again, like several others, I now find my thoughts turning towards a new Plus Four, however £75k - £80k is a huge amount of money to pay for a toy which will get minimal use, (my ARP4 has done less than 10,000 miles in 4 years).
However, I cannot think of any other car in the same class, with character, uniqueness, relative reliability, (which rules out 'classics') and some great owners to chat to. Can anyone come up with some thoughts on other vehicles I ought to be thinking about, for the amount I could get for my ARP4?

Will be at least as reliable as any Morgan😉

So as this thread is under the "Malvern Arms" section where anything can be discussed you through in to the mix other manufacturers which offer driver focussed, characterful cars from a number of eras and a full range of cost. Lotus is one such brand that springs to mind and for the cost of a new Plus 4 would allow you to keep your Mog and purchase a decent Lotus to have a different experience. They also benefit from pretty low depreciation. I had an Exige for 18months which I had to sell to buy the Aero8 and over the 18months of ownership the depreciation was £1500, which for a £50k car I was very happy with.

Paul. Paul, this sounds like the classical "horns of a dilemma".... We bought the Plus 8 in 2014 and have added about 5000 miles a year, well up to 2019. The car has started to appreciate and if it was stolen or written off I'd get enough to get a new CX Plus 4. This started me thinking: the Plus 8 will be 8 in April next year. Should I think about selling it and buying new? The difference is not insurmountable: I normally keep cars 3 to 5 years and like a change and new stuff. I'm also 70 in April and surely I deserve a birthday present...

If you want something different any number of classics would fit the bill. With a few mods/upgrades there's no reason they can't be reliable.
My own classic was restored 15 years ago, has completed 5 European tours and has never once failed to proceed.
My brand new 3.7 Roadster was recovered by trailer 24 hours after purchase.
