Just read that it will cost £170,000. Surely that can't be right! You could buy a nice normal Plus Four, an Ariel Nomad and keep £40,000 in the bank! I'd rather buy a normal Morgan and a nice, rustic Series 2 Land Rover. Then you would have a car that doesn’t get stuck in the first muddy dirt road (the CX-T has no four-wheel drive) and a Morgan that you can drive open top. (the CX-T has no opening roof). Here you have combined the worst of two worlds, that's only for rich collectors and for the show mile. I bet if you drive the CX-T like they it did in the video, it would be broken within a day. They did drive it like that and got several days and it didn’t break.

I'll put some headlights on the roof of my 4/4, raise the suspension 4 cm and build a roll cage. Then the car is 120,000€ more expensive. BTW, I could have done the whole route in the MMC film with my 4/4. More dust than terrain was shown, actually a completely ordinary unpaved road, plus the one scene where the car has to jump down a bit. They probably shot that at the very end because the frame got bent. And finally a bit of Lawrence of Arabia romance with a campfire lit by the advertising agency.

So much so that instead of packing up at lunch time they stopped well into the evening and it didn't break. Certainly not what I thought the next special would but I guess it's a good test of the CX tube and a positive effect of the development team being bored during lockdown.

It’s been tested, then tested and tested again for endurance. It’s quite a lot more that an old 4/4 with raised suspenders

I’d say that Morgan are losing the plot with this one at over £200k. But they’ve apparently only got two left of the batch they are making so they obviously know their customer base! It’s taken me back to some of the ideas that Jon Wells sketched in an edition of Mogmag a few years ago so perhaps with this being so successful, they may be tempted to explore his other ideas....I hope so.

It's not intended as a serious off-roader .... think the old long distance rallies of yesteryear (London to Sydney Marathon etc) or stage rally AH 3000s .... more for off the beaten track dirt roads in Morroco or desert tracks around Escalante than 'rock-crawling' in Moab or mud-plugging in Tenessee!
Two wheel drives can go surprising places (I've taken a 2CV out into the Sahara and an Austin A40 over horse tracks in the mountains of Southern Yugoslavia back when it was still Yugoslavia) .... .. and the one in the promotional vid has already seen more rough-stuff than 90% of the new Land Rover Defenders sold ever will.
Remains to be seen if any of the 8 purchasers will be minded to put them to the test ... if they do (and they're decent drivers) they may be surprised the places they get! 🙂

It is to create brand awareness, so good luck to them . I understand it has been well tested so won't back fire but I doubt the 8 will join the Paris Dakar etc. But then neither did most Camel Defenders etc.

The CXT with its 2WD is no more an off roader than most other 2WD cars. The advertising value to MMC is probably to show how tough the CX chassis is or perhaps to sell a few to Middle Eastern car collectors
