On the way back from Sunningdale popped into Malvern and sat in the '22 plus 4 with the new hood and the very latest revision to the hood mechanism, which moves the horizontal frame arm further out . I'm 6'3'' just over 100 kilos and 48 inch chest and the hood erected was no problem, but folded the felt covered horizontal frame arm was snug against the seat and I, was very aware of the frame arm as it rubbed against top of my arm and shoulder, I would have found it uncomfortable before too long.

As far as I am concerned it felt like one step forward and 2 steps back. They didn't have a Plus 6 in but the extra width may have resolved the hood frame problem for me.

Hi Robbie,
Nothing solid I'm afraid. Your car has the same door openings as the 22MY (I think) so it should fit from a dimensional point of view but the windscreen seals etc are quite different on the 22MY car so I think it would be more than just a simple swap of the hood and frame. I would suggest you ask your dealer.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Best regards,
John

You need to brace yourself for the cost of this upgrade Robbie.

Dave -- I am well aware that Morgan prices for this are likely to be eye-watering - A) I want to know if it is possible B) if the MY 22 Hood is proving to be quieter and water-proof and then -- C) the cost -----Only then can I decide whether or not its worth it!!!

Maybe we should have a sweep on predicted cost. I reckon it could be in the £5k+ region, unless the original hood can be reworked.

Robbie,
Reading Charles Neal's review of the 22MY Plus Four in the August Miscellany he seems to suggest that the "upgrade" of the hood is possible. He says:

"The car I drove (the grey Plus Four as seen in the promo images) was apparently built to 2021 spec before being updated, and during the torrential deluge a few spots of rain did come in via a small gap at the back of the door by the Tenax fasteners - but I noticed that there was more hood material there on the "production spec" 2022 cars I saw outside the Experience Centre, and no sign of the gap".

That being said it would also seem that you would need to change the sidescreens as well.

Hope that helps.

I guess the best way to check the 22 roof out is to hire one at MMC and fire it through a car wash grin2

That's certainly what I'd do if I was investing 5k+ on an upgraded roof..

Robbie, hope these help & others if interested

It's going to be expensive & factory fit only I think, the 'screen pillars, front hood (deeper) chrome frame, hood mechanism, & fabric are all significantly different
