We’re lucky having the winner of the 2019 Fish & Chip Shop of the Year close by. www.krispies.co.uk
Usually we have cod and chips, but occasionally and just for the halibut, we add mushy peas.

Nothing wrong with F & C unless you eat the batter, which of course is just there to encase the fish whilst it is cooking. The chips should be almost grease free.

The plates we have eaten them off tell a different story, it's swimming in fat..

I suspect you have chosen the wrong chip shop.

There are very few really good chip shops. Eric’s in Thornham (Norfolk) is one. Our house is another - my chip recipe remains a secret. Until Mrs F snitches but she knows which way her bread is buttered.

You are probably right but many other folk rave over them around here, we eat loads of fish at home especially so living where we do but we never have chips with them, Heather doesn't fry anything at all.
Her brother died at 39 of cardiac myopathy and you learn from these very tough lessons.
Any fast food is out of the question unless I'm away from home on a boys trip which happens fairly often..

I have tried the shop Budster mentions as I have a very good friend I visit in Exmouth and she sometimes suggests we grab a bag and go and watch the sea and they are ok.
Mostly we end up at the Blue Ball at Clyst if I'm choosing.

My secret chip recipe...
1. The right type of potato....and I'm not telling. Heston swore me to silence.
2. Slice and then par boil for 10 mins.
3 Drain and put in the freezer uncovered until very cold, but not frozen.
4.Deep fry at 120C in LARD, until cooked but not brown.
5 Drain and back in the freezer, again un covered.
6 Bake in the oven at 210C until crispy and golden.

I tend to make enough for 3 or so meals and after stage 5 bag the excess and freeze fully.
There should be NO excess or visible fat.

Or buy Tesco Finest Triple Cooked Chips, expensive but as good and no faff.
