Just having got to 45,000 miles I thought it might be time to change the fuel filter.. Checking the fuel pump it appears that its the fuel return line that's filtered and not the pump output. It appears that the pump pumps the fuel up to the injectors under pressure and what isn't used is returned to the tank via the filter. So the questions is should I swap the connections on the fuel pump so the filter (I will use a new one) is on the outgoing pressure side which will offer better protection to the injectors (I do wonder if one is showing early signs of failure as it consistently runs about 1ms longer "open" than the other and the plugs both look the same. Im assuming it might be slightly blocked as has to be activated longer to keep the lambda happy. Any thoughts appreciated. Dave

Don’t transpose the fuel filter lines, the “filters” main job is as a pressure regulator to maintain 58 psi at the injectors. Filtering the fuel is secondary.

Perfect many thanks - I hadn't thought about it regulating the pressure!

Dave Emil's fuel system reverses the filter to be in line leading TO the injectors not after....nice correction to the system. Now an adjustable gauge maintains the 58PSI.

I think that Emil's deluxe fuel system fixes all the issues with the standard set up. A very similar result can be achieved with some off the shelf items for those that don't trust the postal service. There are two articles in the MTWC Bulletin magazine with an explanation on how the system operates, upgrades and inline fuel filters for the M3W, in January and July 2021 issues, available to club members online as well. https://www.mtwc.co.uk/full-list-of-articles/

Emil has retired so availability of his systems will depend on what he has left on the shelf, if you want any of Emil's great products contact him pronto.
