If the engine has to come out, as it will for a stator change, they should be able to change the Centa rollers for just the price of the parts, about £35 for a set of four. There is no extra work involved in replacing them, other than carrying them from the stores to the car 😁.

As stator failure is so rare on the M3W, it will be interesting to see just what the problem is with the stator and what they think has caused it. I would ask for photos or to be shown the indication if there is no visible break in the wires.

It's a new car with 2200 miles - why would you have to pay anything to have the damaged rollers changed ?

If the rollers are already damaged I'd want the warranty on them to be reset.

Even the "upgrades" (which in reality are poor responses to fundamental engineering flaws) haven't been well thought out or executed.

Sad that it takes a man in a shed to sort out problems that should never have existed in the first place.

If you are taking the engine out i would seriously consider the Bleazey Centa Conversion. Could save future grief and another engine removal.

Just curious which upgrades you consider poor? Chassis fix?

Well the early chassis fix doesn't appear to have been satisfactory but I think the Centa is an example of a reasonable solution that has been poorly executed by the factory.

Ah - IMHO these cannot be described as "upgrades" but more "attempted fixes" wink
Then again the chassis fix seems to mostly work, as does the Centa (except for its requirement for an engine out to change the Centa rubbers - ie replaced one issue with another )... wink

I don't think that GregA10 is saying that the Centa rollers are damaged, they may well prove to be perfect for another 30,000 miles, some have done this mileage. He is just asking for them to be replaced as the opportunity presents itself.

The "man in a shed" (Phil Bleazey?) has not improved the life or durability of the Centa drive (although his own inserts have a yet to be determined life expectancy) but has made the replacement and servicing of it a much simpler and quicker task. An excellent modification that could easily have been incorporated in production but wasn't.

I must agree that it is a shame that the "customer development team" has had to work hard to sort out many basic problems with the M3W over the years of production and that the last ones produced still have many of the same faults that the first ones had, as MMC have mostly ignored what is happening with their product in use. I don't suppose they dare look at any customer feed back or reliability data? The last new owners will still have to fork out more money to sort out their nice new shiny cars to make them reliable, much as they did 9 years ago.

Without the exchange of information on this forum I think the M3W would not have been possible to run by many owners, certainly myself. If I had been dependent on Morgan or their dealers it would have been sold long ago.

I believe that's also what I said. smile

We can go back as far as the steering geometry which was an engineering embarrassment until "upgraded" at the customers cost.

Regarding the Centa. Having had experience of flexible couplings, when it was first introduced as an "upgrade" I asked on the forum whether the MMC had given an expected service life and maintenance details.

No one seemed interested at the time which is perhaps understandable as anything seemed better than what went before.

What should have been an acceptable fix has been compromised by (avoidable) poor application. Again.

He did say he'd "Seen plenty of dust and chunks come out!" but I take your point.

MMC's poor response to the various problems is inexcusable, but even more worrying are the amount of issues that are the result of some very poor basic engineering decisions in the first instance.
