Well, took the M3W out to have a coffee. Started and drove flawlessly as usual (despite the many rattles 😅). Had my coffee, climbed back in, hit the starter button with all eyes on me and… tickticktickticktick. Called morgan rescue (who asked me if the car was automatic, all wheel drive, 2 wheel drive, and whether I was towing anything - hah!). They managed to start the car right up with a booster pack but we quickly determined it wasn’t charging. Flatbed to Oakmere in Northwich who have determined that the problem seems to be the stator and they are now awaiting permission from Morgan to take the engine out.
At 6 months and 2,200 miles, not the greatest reliability…
Wondering if anyone else had first or second hand experience of this kind of failure?
I’ll at least take the opportunity to swap the rollers out!

Greg About the same number of miles but a longer time. Rectifier, change it to an HarletDavidson model problem solved.

The usual component failure when no charge is the regulator or wires to same. Hopefully Oakmere have asserted it is the less common failure of stator.

Very rare to have a stator failure, very common to have the original Banner battery totally fail in a short time or the CE rectifier fail, although less so since mounting it to the chassis rather than the vibrating engine. Another possible failure is in the 4 pin Amphenol plug from the stator to the rectifier if it hasn't been fully engaged and burns out but they would have found that when testing the Stator. Oakmere will know what they are doing....... The only stator failures I know of were because of an incorrectly wired rectifier grounding the output and physical damage caused by transmission failure, the stator was the least of the problems.

Agree with all that Planenut stated. In addition, mine had a lack of contact at the bolt just ahead of the oil tank; red plastic was preventing electrical contact there, which resulted in lack of charge through the rectifier. Electrical gremlins a-plenty with this little 3 wheeled devil.

Oakmere believe it’s the stator, they’re now waiting for Morgan’s approval to take the engine out. One week and counting… shame as I’m missing all the nice weather!
I think I’m more annoyed about how long Morgan takes to approve repairs than the unreliability itself!
You made them this poorly, don’t winge when they break in warranty 😅

I’ll see how much they want to change the rollers while they’re at it, or at least inspect them. Seen plenty of dust and chunks come out!
