Neigh on impossible for the Harley compensator to completely disengage unlike the Centa one. Like Michael says, it will sound like a biscuit tin with nuts and bolts in being shaken about if its not greased every 1500 miles or so. Kept well lubricated it potentially will last the life of the car.

21K miles on mine with no wear and no problems.

I thought you did a HD compensator rebuild in 2019 after it got a bit rattly on the return from Switzerland? Still impressed how you keep the HD compensator going.

I don’t know this.

How do you grease the compensator?

The early Harley Davidson spring based compensators (sometimes) had a grease nipple for lubrication. This type was fitted only to pre 2014 cars. The Centa compensator has no grease nipple.

Very helpful. Thanks.

I was worried I missed an important maintenance step.

Thank you for your suggestions. No visible problem with the spark plugs but swopped them for an old set and vibration hS been cured. Now enjoying the transmission, the best it has been.

Best wishes

Every little thing will affect this creature. The spark plug change can be attributed to a better gap, better spark plugs, cables and crimping those damn spark nipples down so they make contact! You also have to check things out every week because the vibration is trying to shake things apart! Get over it, move on. I keep tools hand at ahnd, check tightness as well as look for missing bolts due to just wear and tear. It is never ending...

Sportster if you have the grease nipple there will be hole in the bottom of the housing, I had the nipple retrofitted at a year old for free. You need a blue grease that someone else will have the details.
