Storage project

I have had storage envy for some time, particularly related to our phones, sunglasses, USB drives and sweets. I discovered another cubby hole in our Subaru yesterday and decided enough was enough the Morgan was going to get some.

The 4 seater has a fair amount of space along the top of the transmission tunnel that then narrows and continues down between the seats. This is the target area for something shallow to allow access to the handbrake and lipped to keep stuff from sliding off and disappearing into the darkness never to be seen again and so a tray like construction seemed to be the solution.

I made two; one fits between the seats and is narrow stretching back into the rear seat area, it will hold a bottle laid down. The second sits on the transmission tunnel and follows the allowable space around the gear lever and handbrake lever. Both are located by a bit of extra material that hangs down at the sides to stop them sliding about. both will accommodate an iPhone and the front tray will take our iPhone support for ease of viewing the screen when navigating.

I made them from 5mm and 10mm EVA foam boards and a 1/4, 1.2mm thick, goat hide purchased from Pittards. The colour is Mulberry as is the Morgan interior although it is complimentary rather than an accurate match.

Tips for those wishing to do the same or similar:
I would make it from 10mm material all round for additional flatness
Make a simpler outline on the front unit
The hide was too thick to manipulate around the 90 deg angles so I would chose a thinner material - .6mm
Investigate how to make less mess with the glueing - contact cement gets everywhere and got everywhere

My seat belt anchorages are in the middle, not the outside?

Well done Kevin, the shaped front one is a good idea

OK, my seatbelt mounts are the other side, by the doors. The centre of your model may not allow this type of addition, or may need another design.

What I have learnt very quickly is you all seem to be tweaking you cars to suit your needs/desires, I'm of a mind to leave mine as it came out of the factory apart from some upgrades on the rear suspension (Anti Tramp bars).

I washed her and polished her to within an inch of her life yesterday:-)

And why not, whatever floats your boat. It's your car with which you may do exactly as you please, and let no-one tell you otherwise. TBH, unless you really like absolutely caning it off the start, I would say anti-tramps really aren't necessary on a stock 4/4. A Panhard rod would give much more of a benefit I would suggest.

Keeping a car standard makes perfect sense, especially if you see yourself selling it in a few years.

That's what I do with mine, I buy exactly what car I want and tend to keep them for a good few years and it has nothing at all to do with resale, I just prefer to look at the build record and original order and keep it that way.

I also have an aversion to badges, spotlights and any form of stickers adorning cars but that's the minimalist in me, he says with a Plus 8 grin2

It's all about your personal preference, you have already made a BIG statement buying your Morgan thumbs

I agree about the interior, these trays just lie on top of the existing leather and simply lift out, they stay still by having shallow 'skirts'. I think a little differently about under the bonnet which might be a future target for me, I'm considering a better manifold and appropriate ECU.
