As an antidote to the gross excesses of modern cars, yesterday the Memsahib and I had a day out at Krazy Horse, that well know purveyor of interesting cars to the more astute members of the motoring fraternity ( they also do a really good bacon burger and fat chips ) and I tried to lever myself into a Caterham, with no success I must say but there was an example of a vehicle in which you can have great fun at reasonable speeds with very good fuel consumption ( it only had a 600cc Susy Q engine ) and bring a smile to everyones day.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I've had a few V8's in the past, and as much as I enjoyed the 'brutish' nature they do make for a lazy drive/driver. Much more fun trying to get the most out of somethng with smaller capacity.

If one is going to buy a car to enjoy the driving experience on UK roads, then small, light, flickable B road cars have got to be where it's at. The main roads are too busy and heavily monitored to be able to do anything other than get from A to B - which, to be fair, is what the overwhelming majority of road users want them for, they're not designed for the likes of us to go larking about on.

A very good idea I agree but as Reg found out, you do have to be able to get into one and then the getting out, many young people struggle with my car let alone a Caterham..

When I feel like winding up the V8 boys, I point out that they are excellent cars for people who aren't very good at changing gear.

You grow through the pubescent grinding the gears stage in time I always tell the rev box boy racers When I had my 4/4 I got the closest to getting a ticket in over twenty years as it encouraged you to be a hooligan whereas the constancy of torque in the V8 calms you down, as I have no desire for a ticket I'll stay where I am.

Fair point - although AIUI you can get Caterhams built with body tubs that are more suitable for those of us who are carrying a little extra condition.

fair one Tim.. I will admit to missing that Sigma unit though, their power delivery is an absolute joy.
