Haven't needed one for years, but if it floats your boat to possess such things, sail away as it's providing the salesperson and the insurer with a living so good news.

I could happily collect two more Morgan's if I had the additional pair of garages though one would quite possibly be the incoming three wheeler subject to it completing a reliable year in the hands of the guinea pigs.

The previous model with the Hardley engine did not appeal to me at all, if you want to fly get in a Tiger Moth and do it in style noisily and reliably with the third dimension as a bonus.

I love JLC because they use only JLC components, they have some iconic models and they are not as obvious as a Rolex on the wrist.
The great thing about mechanical watches: they are superfluous luxury, similar to sportscars, but you don't need a garage for them.

Recently bought a watch called a Submariner but surprised to find there is a waiting list for new ones so had to buy a nearly new one costing several thousands more than the new retail price - but that is supply and demand.

Watches…. Defo a slippery slope

There are waiting lists for new Rolex steel watches for several years. Similar to the Morgan waiting lists sometime in the last century.

Fortunately I've never got hooked on high end watches, but tools...oh dear that's another £££ story

I have two decent watches - an Omega with the coaxial escapement invented by George Daniels (auto biography well worth a read but his book on watchmaking can be hard going if, like me, you have dyslexia) and an IWC pilot's chronograph. I bought the latter because it's so clear you can read it across the room - handy when speaking at conferences. Together they cost in the region of ten grand but I've had them a while and was fortunate to buy them tax free. One is slow (Omega) and the other is fast (IWC) but both within chronometer standards. If you want something that will keep exceptional time without exceptional costs ignore 'certified chronometers' and buy a Grand Seiko or something quartz from a supermarket. My everyday watch carries the Superdry brand, keeps very good time, costs less than 20 quid and the face and strap glow in the dark - how cool is that?

I see an automatic watch as romantic. I have so little energy thanks to the drugs that keep me on the planet that any device that can capture it to be a thing of wonder.

An other watch related question:
I do have a preferred every day watch but from time to time I like to change for an other sports watch for several weeks until I return to the "standard watch". On weekends it is nice to select a proper dresswatch with a leather strap but for casual every day use rubber or metal straps are higher on my list.
I try to avoid garage queen watches.
I never got them to lock them away but to enjoy their beauty in real use. I know that a watch in best condition keeps a higher value but that may be important for my heirs, not for me.
How do you handle and use your watch collections?
