That makes very interesting reading and neatly turns everything we have been told upside down.

Hi Everyone,

Other than slowing down fuel separation what other benefits do members perceive E10 additives give, if any?

Well that was interesting and threw up some very valid points. Also, maybe someone could explain how Morgans in Europe fare given that we've had E10 fuel for years without problems.

I did a quick research and found this site for the effects of chemicals on rubbers.
https://mykin.com/rubber-chemical-resistance-chart-3
It doesn’t specify the concentration of the chemicals, time of contact, test methodology etc. so still leaves a grey area for ethanol in petrol at varying concentrations.
I am looking for sources to see more detailed research results.
One point to bear in mind is the political impetus behind ethanol for ICE use. It involves considerations of combustion/emissions plus agriculture policies. “Let’s grow our own bio-mass to make ethanol instead of oil use”. Pay farmers to convert.
Oil companies....”Hmmmm....how can we slow down the change to suit us?”
Intoday’s world of online information it is easy to sow seeds of bullshit that are adopted as truth. Finding definitive unbiased information is not always easy.

Interesting read. It says twice that E fuel is more powerful. How does that tie in with a 10% loss in mpg?

Quite a few of the additives mentioned by us are not actually relevant to the increase in biofuel but are designed to replace missing lead which I think means simply upping the star rating...?
Not sure of my facts but I don't see how the most popular one attacks the supposed disadvantages of biofuel.
Anyone actually know?

We used to add 10% Methanol/Ethanol to fuel on racing cars for increased power and cooling. This required larger jet sizes on carburetted cars.
On the Pembleton, after gradually increasing jet sizes, I ended up with 10% larger jets for E5 fuel. Performance is better than on earlier fuels (when you only have around 35bhp it is easy to measure performance on the public road!).
On the 4/4 I have just fitted ethanol proof fuel pipes (CBS), a newly manufactured fuel pump and increased the jetting by around 5% as a starting point- the Twin Cam is now noticeably quicker.
Carburetted cars of this era tended to be set quite weak as standard for emissions rather than performance.
