My Librands door stays have ceased to function properly (did they ever ?). At 12 years old and after just 3 months of ownership, parking on a slight incline or in a strong-ish prevailing wind blows the doors shut. On the basis that there are usually several wrong solutions, which of these seems a good cure ? ~ squeeze the two sides of the stay closer together (risks marking the s/steel) ~ replace the "roller" (is there a custom-made one ?) ~ if not, then a slightly larger-size piece of brass or bronze (or fibre) tube ? ~ tighten something else ? ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2021/09/07/Stay----left.jpg) Yes, you can squeeze the cheeks together, also you can take out the pin & put a new piece of plastic tube over it (can just be seen on your photo) Never lube the slidy bits or the plastic tube on the pin or it completely defeats the hold open grip

Took the top hinges off today. Popped the pins out, and gave them a light fettling with a hammer. Didn't make a blind bit of difference.
Took them out again and smacked the sh1t out of them with a larger hammer. A vast improvement - nearly all the movement gone. Had to raise the door latches by a few mm so they'd shut (they'd obviously dropped a fair bit).
Haven't tried them with side screens yet thoiugh.
Also gave the drivers door stay a quick squeeze in the vice (with the rubber vice covers) and that works a lot better now.
Hopefully be able to get some oversize pins and make a more permanent repair.

A wise Jedi taught me the same technique, his advice to me was “use the force, Ewan , use the force”.

And, as if by magic, a set of pins have been ordered! Thank you Paul!

Yes, you can squeeze the cheeks together, also you can take out the pin & put a new piece of plastic tube over it (can just be seen on your photo). Never lube the slidy bits or the plastic tube on the pin or it completely defeats the hold open grip In the automotive equivalent of "have you tried turning your computer off and back on again", I took the entire assembly apart, squeezed the cheeks, slightly increased the détente (that's the name I believe for the little sticky-in bit where it was hit with a punch), cleaned everything, unlubricated everything. Result: nada, diddly squat, same problem. Solution: don't park on a hill or in a prevailing wind.

The challenge was to find the right combination of outside/inside diameter, and not being too squidgy. I failed to find the appropriate size in my scraps of tubing, ranging from ballpoint pen refill to hosepipe. So I tried our local car spares shop, DIY store, plumber, modelmaking supplier, aquatics/garden centre, chemist, pub/home-brewing....and eventually extensively trawled Ebay. So I have two packages arriving later this week, and will see which fits best.

Yep, thought of that too, as a neater version of a wrap of duct tape - which would get worn off with a combination of friction and the poking effect of that little dimply détente. Once the lengths of tubing arrive here, I'll experiment and report back. It's one of those things that seems trivial, but is just an annoyance.
