Do you not have a separate supply for front spots and an unused switch location on the dash?
Talk to BHM they were great helping me with my start button.

I will check on the wiring but no spare switch as I have aircon.

Definitely use a relay.

I burned out the lighting stalk contacts trying something similar.

Keith, just been looking at the +4 wiring schematic for your car. Wiring is already in loom for front fog lights (look for unused blue/yellow cables under wings). These lights are controlled via an optional dash switch, plug with two wires for which should also be present (red/orange and blue/yellow).

It seems therefore much of the fresh cabling could be avoided by using existing and adding factory switch although you would still need to intercept and add relay for main beam only operation.

Interesting requirement! Could an optoisolator connected in the ignition lamp circuit work to drive a relay?
