I took my plus 4 out yesterday and for some reason it’s developed a slightly fast idle. Normally it would tick over about 800 - 900 rpm but it’s now settled at about 1050 rpm. I can’t see any means of adjusting it so I’m wondering if it’s some sensor starting to fail? The cars is a 1994 plus 4 with the Rover T16 engine. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony

I will watch this thread with interest.

I bought my 1996 +4 4 Seater in June. The idle settles to an indicated 1050rpm (more when cold). It doesn't sound particularly fast and I have wondered if the gauge over-reads.

The normal reason is an air leak. Check all the hoses and clips. 1050 isn't fast , on my T16 the ECU would play up & idle either perfectly, not at all or at 3000 rpm.

Hi. Interesting. 1050 is exactly what the Rev counter shows. I wouldn’t have been too worried but it’s changed literally overnight from an indicated 800-900? I’ve found how to adjust it in the Haynes manual for the Rover 800, but it’s not straight forward. I hoped it would be half a turn on a screw. I’ll check out the air leak first by nipping everything I can find up!
