The wall artwork in Belfast and Lurgan when I was out there working was truly top quality work and I'm really glad I took the time to tour it at the time although a little uncomfortable at times. Even the kerb stones look good in green orange and white or red white and blue, it was a very grey time out there in the early eighties..

I dont like 'bad' graffiti like the hastily scrawled tags for instance but some of it really is good and well painted. I wouldn't want it on my garage mind you. ( maybe a Banksy, to sell ! ) I use spray paints for all sorts, but not spraying cars.

There's a concours winning Triumph Vitesse local to me, painted entirely with rattle cans. Paintwork is perfect......

However where in the grand scheme does cave art enter consideration... I love a bit of cave art - i have several depictions from Lascaux, Altai and others tattooed on me.....

Glasgow this afternoon, “art”and graffiti ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2021/10/20/4334D1E1-3A36-4967-A99C-6BE25A1D686B.jpg) I also went to see some “actual” art from the likes of that there Van Gough and yon impressionist, Claude Monet at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove gallery, I’d highly recommend a visit. They had an interesting car on display too but I posted that elsewhere so as not to cause excessive thread drift here.

Well thanks everybody for at least answering the question ‘does aerosol paint have a legitimate use’. As to Art vs Graffiti: context is everything but a useful distinction is that graffiti is imposed on you whether you like it or not (like noise, dust, smoke) whereas you seek out Art. As for banksy - joker, activist, enigma, shyster and/or genius rolled into one Robin Hood figure that (nearly) everyone loves. He will become a ‘national treasure’ one day no question. I can’t agree that banning spray-paint cans would result in brushes being used - far too impractical to carry around. The Belfast murals? para-military ‘advertising’ and I personally find them threatening. That’s my two cents worth!

Some graffiti I have seen is quite well executed however tagging is a blight and the line between them is the viewers perspective. A local home owner in our area recently painted their own fence during the lockdown to try and give people a laugh. They put the Snoopy Dancing picture on the front panel. I thought it was really well done and was a nice touch to help people. The number of compliants on the local forum was shocking. Everyone said it had been "tagged by evil youfs" when it was the home owner, go figure where the problem is there? ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2021/10/21/Snoopy.jpg) I have used rattle cans for quite a few projects outside of actual car painting and they are handy. If we deleted them the plebs would only use some of the pump up cans you can get which would do that same job. Before we take them out of society I would prefer we dealt with knives, knuckle dusters and other more damaging things like the Sun newspaper. I would imagine the energy spent on tackling this would be out of proportion to the value to society when so many other problems are facing the police force, unless we want to raise out taxes again? I doubt the police want to deal with it. However if it was my property being defaced I may have another view. I know the Transport police keep a database of this stuff and look to address it. Perhaps they should consider using those integrated hunting webcam boxes and let technology help them? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wildlife-Bluetooth-Hunting-Monitoring-Security/dp/B09BKYMTRZ
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

We go to Malaga City quite often and it is a real mess with Graffiti, particularly at night when the shop shutters are covered in a mess of tags. However some shops have (presumably) paid to have their shutters decorated with Graffiti art and there appears to be some sort of "code" that, if they have done so, then they do not also get covered in tags or random spraying. A kind of graffiti artist protection racket I guess.

I am due to travel to Greece shortly (Covid restrictions permitting) to visit an Aerosol Manufacturer to see if we want to take the Brand on in the UK, our first initial talks were regarding quantity of any/each colour or product, whilst chatting via Zoom i asked what was their largest market.
Graffiti Aerosols and they already have a supplier in the UK (Wales).
This is not the market i wish to enter, i will be running down the Automotive route. Why Aerosols ? they are very convenient in the Refinishing Trade for minor repairs which makes it unnecessary to mix large quantities in Spray Guns and pour excess waste away.

We went on the Blue Pullman train last month from Newport to Penzance. The condition and fresh livery of the train as it arrived was like factory fresh, but during the night where it was shed outside of Cardiff some a******e had graffitied one side of a central carriage even over the windows. The staff had spent hours removing it from the windows and the journey was superb and there were train spotters all along the route wanting to photograph the train. Flogging and the birch spring to mind!
