Bit of a drift but what about the roads to Cornwall? If lithium mines really get going down there the road system is going to need serious attention isn't it?

Nick Interesting question. World production in 2020 was around 82,000 tons, say 100k tonnes given growth in demand. How much would Cornwall produce? 10% of world production seems a lot. So 10,000 tonnes per year, or 1 40-ton truckload per weekday. I think the A30 could manage.

Dunno really, but no-one's going to be digging holes in the ground to get at it. AIUI they'll be doing most of the extraction from groundwater as part of the geothermal plant operation, as they are planning to do in Germany. I begin to wonder if the people who run the roads actually know how to drive or own a car?
The ones who post the silly low speed limits clearly dont! I wonder what sort of Morgan 3 wheeler the OP has. If its one of the old originals I would seriously question the wisdom of taking it anywhere near a motorway. If its one of the new ones then MMC is as guilty as the road designers - there simply should be no possibility of losing all electrical power like he describes It is an early one and they all have a 50 amp fuse which if blown (mine was caused by voltage regulator going down to earth) you loose the lot. I think we need an auxiliary supply to safety features such as hazard - direction and stop lamps.

More modern Trads have a master fuse, and so the same total shutdown could happen.
At the risk of droning on, without a reflective rear number plate, if that happened in the dark, the outcome may not be good.

My trad has two red rear reflectors. They are very effective.

There are lots of things wrong with Motorways as traffic volume has increased. To improve things significantly but still permit higher average speeds you'd have to build more road capacity than the demand can use, and as it's taxpayers money that funds it, who's going to vote for the government to build more roads than are needed? What do you mean by "needed"? If you are only concerned about costs then we dont need motorways at all. Sure there would be wall to wall congestion and economic damage but who cares? Not the traffic planners by the look of it. We should tailor the road system to what the people want and not try to tailor the people and their habits to what will suit an inadequate road system as we are doing with the Smart Motorways. And as for the argument that if you build more roads you will get more traffic - nonsense! People dont go out to drive just because roads are there ( Morgan enthusiasts excepted!;-) ) They overwhelmingly use the roads because they have to go somewhere, and they want to spend as little time on them as they can. Not long ago I had to drive 200 miles up the M50 and then M6. That 200 miles took me 6 hours. Do you think that is acceptable?
