Break dust shields (+4 2009, Caparo calipers) - does this exist as an accessories? Maybe somebody tried to adapt dust shields of another cars, or made a completely new ones?

Peter, Don't know if this will be of any help but my SS100 has brake disc covers which prevent the dust forming on the wheels. You might be able to get something like that made by this company:- daytonametalwork@gmail.com 07919168477. They have taken over all the fabrication and metal work for the now defunct Suffolk Sports Car Engineering. The chap you need is Ben.

Thanks a lot! Just to be more specific - I had in mind the standard brake dust shields, common on almost every car. I was quite surprised, seeing Morgans are missing them.

Peter, I'd be interested to know why you're asking? I did not have them on my 07 reg +4 and it was not a problem. But on my 18 reg +4 the brakes are just awful in heavy rain. Something I've got to fix this winter. I might just drill the discs as this has worked on other cars but I also need to contact some of the suppliers to see what they have on offer.

Asking because just curious, no problems - true, I don't drive that much under wet conditions. And yes, there might be some protection effect keeping water away from discs when driving in heavy rain wet conditions, as well avoiding getting small gravel pieces damaging the discs and pads. Just don't like the unprotected discs...

On my daily car, the delayed braking in heavy rain was well solved by ATE-Power Discs with a kind of elliptic groove, very effective! So, drilled discs might have similar effect.

Apologies to Peter for not realising what he needed (assumed caliper piston dust covers blush ).

When I first queried heavy rain brake delay I was told it's a recognised issue with wire wheels and less so with ally option. The spokes act like blades of a fan blowing surface water onto the discs and necessitating regular dabs on the brakes to keep them dryish. Not sure how effective a brake shield would be in the circumstances.

I found a change of pads (greenstuff) made a significant improvement to initial bite and left it at that.

peterd, I think anything that allows the water to escape works, radial groves, spiral groves, holes or slots.

RichardV6, Yes I could try some EBC pads, I went off greenstuff for my Elan as I found that the friction material surface was cracking when used on track days, but that was some time ago. I moved on to yellowstuff.

Thanks for heads up John. When I changed pads on mine I noticed the nearside pad slots were clogged. It was suggested in a reply to my comments on this that the slots were just permissible wear indicators. I do have my doubts though as brakes were pulling to one side a little until dried out.
