Replaced the brake pressure switch on my LR without need to bleed after. Do pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure you have a hard pedal before moving off though.

Update; Had a good look at my brake light problem this morning. Found that my activation switch is in fact on brake pedal. Being 17 stone and KOS (Knackered ol' s**t) it was a bit awkward to access. However...Bridged the two connectors and confirmed micro switch not working. Immediately Ordered new one on 48hr delivery : https://morgan-kent.com/product/brake-light-switch-2006-on/Then for fun took the old one to bits, cleaned up contacts and reassembled. Plugged in two connectors to test. Needless to say works fine!! Decided to wait for new one (just in case) and if it arrives in time to fit will fit the new one prior to MOT. Just for others. If your pedal micro switch fails you can probably repair it. Once out of car it took 15 mins. No parts needed but it is a bit fiddly on assembly. Will keep as spare.

Just a quick reminder, check those brake lights regularly as complete failure of brake lights on the road is an instant prohibition. You then have to have the car recovered (not towed) re-MOT'd and present the new MOT to the police before you can drive it on the road again. (£300 fine if you do)

Interesting on my 2006 Roadster it was still a pressure switch.

According to Uncle Melvyn, it's from 20th September 2005. https://mogparts.net/product/rear-brake-light-switch-20-9-2005-onAnd remarkably good value.

Got tired of replacing the hydraulic switch on my 81 plus 8 so I built a bracket and installed a mechanical switch ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2021/11/08/brake-switch-4.jpg)

Hi Lance, I like the look of the switch, it looks quite robust, do you have a parts number please.

Hi all, I know this is a well documented and known issue, but after changing the hydraulic brake switch and bleeding the brakes several times, I was still not happy with the pressure required to activate the brake lights and got fed-up with the constant servicing of this. So I came up with my own electro-mechanical switch design and solution using the offset pedal activation in my 2002 4/4. Please see the brief design and fitting overview below:- ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2023/12/22/Brake-Light-Switch.jpeg) I designed it this way, to keep it compact and minimise any intrusion into the drivers footwell. I have not tested this in anger, as my car is now off the road for the winter, but I wired up the new switch in parallel, so there is some redundancy if the new switch fails for any reason. If anyone is interested I can share better quality images, just PM me.
