Ahhhh!!! Thanks Nippymog......So now I have to think about changing that cat or de-cat also....:-)

If one would take the cats away do you think the ECU will go bonkers?

Thanks

I understand that others have removed the cats without any ECU problems.

It's a long time ago, but I once spoke to G56 about the merit of removing the cats and they said that it made surprisingly little difference to power output. 2 or 3% from memory.

Your's appear to have largely removed themselves so you may as well help them on their way!

Thanks Bunny!! This is the first time my car "repairs" itself......:-)

Maybe I should still rework my original exhausts then until I decide on which aftermarket system to buy........I have heard the G56 system and it sounds great!! But I think they are way too big........

Personally I like the Demand Engineering look better but I have no idea on how they sound....Anyone that knows?

Thanks!

As Nippymog says, that looks like the catalytic converter has disintegrated. If you look up the tail of the exhaust header pipe you should be able to see the end of it, it looks like some rolled up crinkly cardboard packaging. If the one side has gone I would be tempted to remove the cats entirely from both sides, others have done this without issues. There is no material like this inside the standard Morgan exhaust, only very restrictive baffles. The quieter and free flowing G56 system does have material inside them as they are absorption exhausts.

Thanks for the info Planenut!!

I will go ahead and remove what's left on both cats and drilling the baffles to start with and then see if I like the sound I will end up with...:-)

Cheers

That is your best and cheapest option. I left the Cats in my pipes and just cut out the single blanking plate in each side with a 44mm cutter.
Sounds good, runs good, cost £3.40 for a hole cutter. I am happy with this same as Lee. The G56 kit is way too bulky for me.

Hi All

I am very happy with the pipes made from me by Custom Chrome and incorporating the well known "Cherry Bomb" silencers.

The person to contact there is Nigel Swift.

The post listed below refers:-

Hi KBMOG,

Thanks for the info....I also checked the whole thread!!

I will start by taking out the cat that's still there and then drill all baffles....and the considering a real rework with a local exhaust guy or buying another system.

Can you post on how your cherry-bomb system looks?? The pictures in the thread were not showing!!

Cheers

I can see this is a really old thread so hope nobody minds me bringing it back to life. When my Three Wheeler was serviced at Morgan this summer the Cat on the drivers side was removed for some reason. It wasn't replaced cos it was gonna cost £300 for effectively nothing. What I have now is an exhaust which chirps, thats the best way I can describe it other than saying it squeeks, and I really don't like it. If I remove the cat from the passenger side and drill out the baffles will that sort everything such that it will eliminate the chirping and give better sounding exhausts? I too was thinking of the G56 solution until I saw this thread so thought for a couple of quid for a 44mm cutter and extension is the way to go before splashing £1600. Like rockabilly_john I would also like to see photos of anybody's cutting set up before I proceed. if no photos at least some advice on what I need to get. Thanks in advance.
