Hi Steve Simmonds here, yes that’s one of my Dickie Coupe conversions. This one was for Adrian Vandercroft.

I finally fitted the polished alloy rear wheel cover to Belle. I have the bits for a badge bar but am awaiting some new badges before fitting them.

John, with it potentially getting all the corrosive road muck on it, have you considered a couple of coats of clear lacquer ?

Jon,
the cowl and bonnet as also polished ali. A regular going over with wax / quick detailer seems to keep it in good condition.
The lower part though is a much softer metal than the bonnet or the top of the cover so scratches easily. I may get it sprayed depending up how it goes.

Hi John,

WOW that looks really sporty. The same style as the bonnet is really cool. Is it a standard MMC part or from another supplier?

From MMC, but naively i thought it would come all smooth an easy to polish. The reality was a lot of marks from wire brushing and may hours of polishing.

Polishing...GRRRR. When preparing metal samples for microscopy the polishing was very intensive using progressively finer grades of media down to diamond grades measured in microns. Polish in one direction then grade down and turn the sample 90deg to realign the polish marks ( finer scratches in reality) and repeat at each grade change. Basically creating an even cover of finer scratches at each stage. Imagine aiming for scratch free finish when viewed at 400x mag down the microscope! Luckily they were small samples not large areas. I think DeLoreans were finished with “ mules” to create the final finish of directional texture ( fine scratches in reality and no actual mules were harmed) the result being a brushed effect.
Dirty coffee mug? Make a paste of bicarb and rub it over the dirty areas. Our lab mugs were sparkling clean!
John, I remember reading a while back that Windolene was often used by some owners of ( usually) Caterham types on polished panels.
