I did not go over 40 mph and i am 5’6” tall so i hunker down behind the screen fairly well. At 60+ there is no hope for the cap😱😃

No helmet law in Washington state?

No, but I wear one when heading toward the freeway.

I bought all of the bits and pieces to get this done and made a start this morning. Firstly I bought the cheaper of the two recommended drill bits thinking it should be fine for cutting through two baffles. It wasn't that good in that it only almost cut through one of the first baffles before losing teeth and becoming blunt quickly. Plenty of oil was used so I put that down to the drill not being up to much. Today I sent for the more expensive one so will start again in a couple more days. Whilst looking at the job after my drill had given up I could see straight down the pipe. It seems that the other baffles had already been removed so now I'm gonna be a straight through job albeit that wasn't my immediate intention. Put the exhaust back on and fired her up and yes there is a definite sound difference albeit the damned squeeky sound coming out of the exhaust persists. Hopefully when it is cut through properly it will go. So far so good. The other exhaust has to have the cat removed so that they match up so my next question is can this be done whilst that part of the exhaust is still connected to the pipes from the engine? I guess you have all noticed I'm not great with anything mechanical but I'm giving it a go smile

The more expensive, sharper cutting device should work better, but the exhaust material is indeed pretty tough. You will have to remove the header to bash out the remaining CAT. Use a long, flat screwdriver to break the bond between the substrate material of the CAT and the wall of the exhaust (go round the material in a circle), then put the biggest screw you can find into the middle of the CAT substrate and pull it out like a lollipop. Provided you've released the bond between the substrate and the header wall, you should be good. Remember to clean up the inside of the header nicely and make sure all loose material is removed.

Yes you can remove the cat without removing the header pipe from the engine. Maybe best to support it & not use too big a hammer

I strongly recommend removing the header pipe to remove the cat

Agreed. Banging on the header pipe will not do the exhaust gasket any good.

Also good practice to replace that exhaust gasket any time you remove the header pipe.

and replace the nuts on the studs with Jetnuts. they use a smaller socket making it easier to get back together.

Yes I will remove the header pipe. This leads on to other questions I hadn’t even thought of before.

What size jet nuts and type of gasket do I need -

Will this do as a Jet Nut -

and this as the gasket
