Well I had my second energy supplier go bust within the last two years. This time it was Neon Reef who charged me 13.66p/kWh and 11.66p daily standing charge. I’m being handed over to BG at 20.66p/kWh and 24.13p daily standing charge. Works out at a 54% cost increase over a year.
I’ve always been one to research suppliers and switch yearly but I can’t see much point as any good deal is simply a prelude to supplier failure.
Everyone is blaming the energy price cap but as that only applies to variable tariffs, I don’t buy it, as surely large numbers of customers are on fixed term tariffs? If so it’s a failure of the free market caused by a lack of prudence on the suppliers part.
The sooner my solar/battery system is delivered the better.

Yep, the supplier failures seem to be largely driven by new entrants not understanding the energy market and failing to hedge properly, instead relying on their customers' money to cover their risk. Extremely bad business practice. An awful lot of people are in for a very rude shock when they have to pay the true cost of their electricity and gas. Putting in our solar /battery system is looking increasingly like a very sensible move indeed.

The sooner my solar/battery system is delivered the better. My supplier has offered £624 for next year from 02/12/2021 when I renew with EON guaranteed until 2023 so I'll probably go with them again, it's not much money for the service provided £12 a week or two pints.

This is it John and it's actually £546.55 pa on rechecking and not fixed price that one guaranteeing the rate came out at £720pa and runs for two years.
This year we paid £446.00 for comparison.

I have been with them for around 5 years now and they sort out the best deal using them.. it always says variable rate but I haven't known them change it during contract run time which is on an annual basis.
This is just for Electricity but they do dual tariff we are in the sticks so it's oil for heating, water etc. and our useage is 2,096 kWh they tell me.

If you go with Octopus Energy telling them I recommended you we get to split £100. Just saying  Seriously though we get a good deal from their flexible tariffs and payment options, particularly if you have smart meter. Having 3kW of solar and with recent demise of government FIT they offer their own at 5.5p/kWh. Not much but better than nothing.

All I can say to +8Rich is that you must spend an awful lot of time out in your +8 as my electricity last year was 12,894 kWh - eek Wow, I thought I was high at 6,500 kWh! Interestingly if you’d been with E.On you’d have spent £2,786.00 against £1,722.00 with Neon Reef. But then again, the honeymoon would have ended this week.
