It was a land of two halves, then. We were very lucky in that the weather was brilliant sunshine and a little bit cold. No wind.

Day three now with no power, the engineers are working round the clock but as of 8am today still 55000 without power. Luckily we have a big generator for the workshop but running quite low on diesel, have on order so hopefully arrive tomorrow. Young couple in the cottage in my photos have three children, two under 18 months! Off to see if I can offer any help.

Was sent this yesterday, wasn't aware of the full extent of the tragedy. Awful.

Sorry to see and read about the damage up there you boys have suffered, keep safe and warm until power gets restored.

That squashed polis van was on the national news they were attending the pick up incident that Keith mentioned where the chap lost his life.

No loss of life down here but strong winds and trees down causing short term power and traffic disruption.

Sorry to learn of all the devastation and loss of life. Hope you are all keeping safe and warm.
It sounds as though South Nottinghamshire got away very lightly.

Finally completed our much-delayed journey back from Newcastle last night .... by our standards the house damage is mild (ie. Still have a roof) ..... lead ridge has gone feral and is playing pretzel .... insurance will cover it but getting two roofers out to quote up here right now could take weeks ... and the repair even longer ... so I'll do it myself in a day once the breeze drops down and the sleet lets up 🙂

Brother in law lives in Wales and was messaging Mrs Image in a tizzy because he has a tree down .... got told we have one or two down here too .... errmm one or two thousand actually.

One small part of our woodland behind the house ... bit of a nightmare .... bit beyond me and my chainsaw to do more than essential tidying up .... will be a challenge for a contractor's heavy machinery to sort that lot!! .... Ho Hum !!

That's some hideous mess, both house and forest. Good luck with the repairs. Could you use some of the wood for an indoor fire? Not a log burner, obviously. Renfrewshire got off lightly.

Bob .... it is what it is .... won't get fixed by worrying about it .... if I can't get a contractor to clear it for replanting I'll just have to bore people by talking about my 'rewilding' project 😁

Dealing with that mess is much more dangerous than normal felling .... trunks and limbs are under enormous pressure in places and the piled trees are unstable .... will nip out with my chainsaw tomorrow to do some essential tidy-up along the side of my track ... but I'll be being extremely cautious!!

Hopefully I'll liberate enough logs so as not have to worry about firewood for a year or six.

Roof is no problem .... will pick a dry calm day .... I'll just end up walking like John Wayne for a bit from straddling the ridge as I work along it 🙂

Glad it's not worse for you than it is Keith, property can be fixed, loss of life can't. I spoke to a neighbour today who's 90, it's the worst storm since 1953 according to him so I guess we all got off pretty lightly. Still no power here and no sign of any SSE engineers with a replacement pole so still at least a couple of days away from getting back to normality I think.
