As an apprentice I was always told "don't be afraid of falling, falling does not hurt you, it's landing that does that"
Good to see you getting things back to normal Keith, day 6 with no power here but I did manage to get diesel for the generator yesterday so the immediate pressure is off.

Gordon .... having never done 'construction' for a living (but having built this house from just stumps of the old walls) I've been scrambling about doing stuff in ways that I'm comfortable with most of my life .... I appreciate a Safety Officer would have kittens, but I know my limits and strengths/weaknesses pretty well by now.....and I have a good working knowledge of the basic laws of physics .... and that they're non-negotiable!!🙂

Glad your preparations have allowed you to keep power on .... pals over the moss still off and not a clue when the power might he back ..... if you need a power pole I've got plenty lying down here in their raw state that you're welcome to .... Buyer Collects obviously 😁

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 & Kia EV6 have a V2L feature it gives you a 13A power socket. So you could boil your kettle at the car or maybe run a cable in to run lights. Perhaps you have a works van with an inverter to do same.

Gordon ... Pleased to have it done ... glad you've got your power back .... our pals recently got theirs back ... major problem for them being just about all electric .... we get off lightly .... not only off-grid (so no power cuts for us) but set up with multiple fallbacks because of that .... right down to having a 'snug' room in the house that can be kept toasty by it's woodburning stove ... and a year or two's logs pre-stacked in the shed for that ... can cook and heat water on top of it too so hopefully never get too uncomfortable.

We'll be clearing up after this for a good while yet in this corner!!

Had the drone over surveying for the forestry contractor to put in for the felling licence (seems a cheek to me paying for the licence as they're already lying down!! 🙂) ... some of the damage to the plantation down from the house .... I'm having the contractor clear the blow-downs, reshape the standing-tree areas to minimise future wind damage then take out every sixth row which will allow more light down and strengthen the trees. The one positive thing is it's prodded me into being more proactive with my forest management (as opposed to just wandering through them thinking 'oohhh! What a big tree!' 🙂)

Ps .... going to replant the 'liberated' areas with native hardwoods to bring some variety to the woodland ... we won't see them much past big saplings, but I enjoy walking under mature native trees that other people planted knowing they'd never see them mature, so who am I to break the cycle 🙂

"A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit."

Well done sir.

Wow, from that view you can clearly see the damaging wind direction

Good move to plant some more variety of native hardwoods which will encourage a wider range of wildlife that just Firs do

Oi! ... not so much of the 'old' sunshine!!! ... that there's fighting talk! 😁

Excellent saying though .... as we get older we go from engaging in things that give up their reward instantly ... to things that take hours .... to things that take days, weeks, years .... and now more and more I engage in things that will outlast me .... and somehow that makes them even more worthwhile .... possibly because I now realise that the things that really impressed me most through life had almost always been things that endured beyond human lifespan (sometimes by many times.)
