This is in the heart of the largest collection of historic, Federal Period homes packed in together in America. Rather than buy up adjacent properties, it would be more fun to negotiate right-of-ways through alleyways between them for egress. My own little 'Italian Job' F1 circuit.

Newport (Aquidneck Island) was the original. 'State of Rhode Island' which later officially became, 'the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations" when the lands settled by Roger Williams were included in the Royal charter. It has one of the more colorful histories being a Colonial era sanctuary for religions which were unacceptable to the earliest English' Puritan (some might describe as the American Taliban) settlements of Plymouth, Salem, and Boston (Massachusetts) and Stonington, Connecticut .It was largely settled as a sanctuary for Quakers and boasts the first Jewish temple in America.
Many homes still remaining were built in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Newport is one of the only deep-water ports on the East Coast of America. As a result, it was heavily defended by the British throughout its history including 'King Philips War' and the Revolutionary War . As a result, these properties were protected from destruction. By the 1970's, particularly after the US Navy left town and they were in rough, unappreciated shape. The wealthiest woman in America, Doris Duke created the Newport Restoration Foundation to begin buying and restoring about 70 of these properties. Some say she did it to preserve her reputation and pay off local police/politicians after murdering her boyfriend and being let off. Whatever the motivation, the result has been spectacular. Hundreds of additional homes have been renovated since then. I live in the 'Point' area which is among the most concentrated. Most recent challenges are rising sea levels which often flood this area.
