The gearbox on my Mk3 MX5 was a peach...one of the nicest gear changes I've every had. It would do very nicely in my 4/4!

Agreed !.........as long as top gear is as tall as 5th in the current 4/4.

Where does the 75th anniversary 4/4 fitted with the +4 2 litre engine fit into this line up. This will be an interesting development. The factory doing the engine swop that older 4/4 owners have been undertaking lately.

A six speeder is one of the optional extras on the Sigma engined Caterham Seven Roadsports (as is the 150 bhp upgrade). Mind you, you probably have to bolt it in yourself.

Er, surely that would make it a 3/4 or a 4/3 as it's 3 cylinder. But sounds good !

That will be the future. Morgan anyway has to take what is in the current Ford (or whoever) production line. All sounds very good. The only issue with this moderate charged new "downsized" engines is a relatively unwilling rev up from idle and low cruising revs. But I´m confident that as longer this new generation of engines exists there will arise good solutions before Morgan takes them.

Well over the decades Morgan has embraced side valves, ohv, 8 cylinders, fuel injection, 5 speed boxes, electronics etc so I'm sure a 3 cylinder engine, which must be a bit lighter too could be acceptable!

Like the yanks say "there's no subbstitute for cubes". In other words if you want grunt then put in a bigger motor. Not 100% true with the new turbo charged engines but you do have to keep the revs up a bit to take advantage of the torque generated when the turbo cuts in.


Heinz and 1560, I think your judgement is most likely correct. Every engine manufacturer is now working towards Euro 6. New models must comply with Euro by September 2014 and existing Euro 5 models can have their first registration up to September 2015. I would not be surprised to see a smaller engined turbo charged Plus 4 in the 2013 Morgan line up. I suspect that by the end of 2013 most new models, from all manufacturers, will be Euro 6 compliant.

I have to say that I could be tempted by a 2 litre Ecoboost Roadster. Or better still an aluminium tub with all round disks, independent suspension, and ABS etc. covered by trad body. In other words a 2 litre version of the new Plus 8 + (or whatever it will be called)

The way the ecomomy is going, who knows if I will be able to afford it.
