Hoping someone might have some insight: my fuel gauge has been displaying 0% for the last few weeks, and I miss it despite its vagueness.

I have previously replaced my fuel gauge sender with the VDO 280mm unit and associated shunt resistor per the thread from a few years ago, so I suspected perhaps a connector had come loose there, but all seems good. I took all the connections apart, and I see about 5V across the wires with the ignition on and nothing connected, and I see about 230 ohms across the sender unit itself, both of which seem reasonable, so I don't seem to have a bad connection.

Any suggestions on where to look next?

Could be a fouled sender wire which is a malady of the old sender. They are wires that can get crud on them and cause the circuit to not operate, especially through a computer circuit.

I put in the long sender and a real gauge so I have more confidence in it.

Seems to have been a sender issue. I pulled the sender out to change the gasket, and while it was out I measured the resistance at both ends of the range to see if it was working OK. It seemed to be, so I put it back and now it is working fine. Maybe it got stuck? If it fails again I may need to replace it.

On a side note, I noticed that the gasket was disintegrating. Not sure now if this is the Morgan original (at less than 2 years old), or the one that came with the replacement 280mm sender, but I got a replacement on Amazon. It is a "VDO 226 053 Fuel Sender Gasket". Old and new below.

As an aside, I can report that since cleaning the very thin wires inside my VDO sender the fuel gauge has been reading accurately and reliably - a thing that hitherto I had considered .
