Good article.
I was at a party (gathering?) so recorded it, only to turn on during the last few laps. Difficult to believe that anyone in their right minds could call that anything resembling a ‘race’. The commentators had no clue what was happening.
Oh well, at least I can go back to ignoring F1 again.

I guess Hamilton won't engage further ... after the spontaneous immediate congratulation of Verstappen my guess is the team legals instructed him to walk away so as not to be seen to be legitimising the result (like your insurance company instructs you not to admit liability whatever the circumstances) ... poor position for him to be in .... team will want to fight it out in court, but as the 'face' of the team he will be the one seen as a 'bad loser' or 'poor sportsman' .... bad situation that really shows the need for robust rules and consistent decision making .... neither of which seemed to be much in evidence.

If I was Hamilton I'd want to walk away and pointedly claim the moral victory (which will become more and more evident as the administrative fallout plays through)... sadly I doubt the team will see it that way.

Sadly, the loser is Formula 1 and all of us who followed it. Now it has lost the last vestiges of the illusion that it was a "Sport": it is just entertainment, not to be taken seriously.

Interesting article F1 where next

Verstappen should have been black flagged for deliberately punting Hamilton off the track early in the race. The Dutchman had nothing to lose and everything to gain on the basis that if both had damaged their cars to force retirement the overall winner would have been Verstappen with one more win than Hamilton over the season.

Not a Hamilton fan by any means but that was a disgrace IMHO. Even indoor go karting doesn’t permit such behaviour.

The overall loser is of course F1.

In all honesty I am still too angry at Masi to post my thoughts cogently.
However, a couple of thoughts that occur to me (utterly irrelevant of course). Did RB short fuel Perez which aided his ability to block/race so superbly when Lewis was trying to pass (he later had to stop and couldn’t see why as he had no obvious issue with his car). Second, and I genuinely like Bottas, but did his v poor race contribute to Lewis losing the title-had he not been so far behind he would have prevented Max from taking the extra “free” pit stops for fresh tyres and therefore be in such a strong situation at the restart.
None of which detracts from the decision by Masi to ignore his own words (at Hockenheim I think, post Lando car fire) where he insisted all lapped cars must go past safety car plus safety car back “in the following” lap.
I have never seen a more blatant fix for TV entertainment imo.
Max has driven v well (albeit dangerously which needs addressing in future) and is a worthy world champion. I wish those associated with him eg Marko/Horner would show some class/humility in their language however post victory. I have to say Lewis and his dad showed more class than I think I would be capable of immediately post race.
Bring on 2022 - I truly cannot wait for the brand new regs! 72 days til testing in Barcelona or thereabouts

What a shambles, without question the cards were stacked against Hamilton once the yellow flag car came out and the decision to race the last lap. Before the incident Hamilton had it in the bag bar a blow out. If I didn't know better I would suggest the 'old boy' network was at play here.

Sad loss for F1, Hamilton under the circumstances was amazingly gracious and his New Years Honours Knighthood is a just recognition of his contribution to the equality in sport and the exceptional sportsman he is.
